Why do people say "drop rate" in video games when it's really a probability? Someone said the drop rate for this item I want is 1 in 50, well I killed 50 of the particular monster and didn't get a drop. Seems to me that's more of a chance thing than a rate
that gorilla has really human facial features

They mean the same thing
>>388472065
They mean the same thing
>>388472065
They mean the same thing
why do people say 'RNG' when they really mean randomosity?
hwy do people say 'hitbox' when the bounding volume can be any shape, and isn't usually a box?
>>388472576
>>388472624
no they don't. if my rate of speed is 50 miles per hour, I am guaranteed to drive 50 miles in 1 hour, it is not a probability
>>388472065
selfies are only allowed on >>>/soc/
>>388472749
probability of 1 is still a probability
>>388472967
no it's not, if it's guaranteed to happen it's not a probability it's a fact
>>388472749
What if you're driving on a treadmill also going 50 mph in the other direction?
>>388473142
then you're not traveling at 50 mph retard
>>388473092
>if it's guaranteed to happen it's not a probability
Yes it is. Brush up on your semantics and/or math my friend
>>388472190
Dude, that's American rap artist Desiigner.
>>388473257
Then how fast would you have to drive to stay on a treadmill cycling 50 miles in 1 hour?
>>388474597
you'd need forward speed of 50 mph but your net speed, i.e. speed of an outside observer, would be 0 mph
>>388473257
Does that mean a car on the road going 50 mph isn't actually going that speed since the earth is moving under it?
>>388472749
>if my rate of speed is 50 miles per hour, I am guaranteed to drive 50 miles in 1 hour, it is not a probability
but your rate of speed is an description, a function of your distance travelled over a discrete amount of time. you could be driving at 100mph for a while and 20mph for a while and finish your journey and work out your rate of speed at 50mph
the drop rate is the rate at which you would see drops appear if you could kill the enemy many many many times over
drop rate is easier than saying probability of this item dropping
>>388472065
most games treat rates differently, there's pure rng where stuff like your can happen and pseudo rng that will make the event less/more likely to happen when straying from the supposed rate
plus gambler's fallacy, 10% drop rate means every time you have 1/10 chance to drop, people somehow think that not dropping increases that chance
it's a deadly combination of not specific wording and people being stupid
>>388472065
Why do people say "OP" when it's really a faggot?
>>388473092
>what is a probability of 1.0
>>388472065
Your car scenario is fucking stupid, because you're not throwing the dice every mile to see if you go another mile or not.
>>388475183
Brush up on your adages. All OPs are faggots but not all faggots are OP.
this is now a Hamada thread
>>388472065
I dunno. Why do some people obsess over incredibly minor shit?
>>388472190
Probably why it's so attractive.
>>388475183
It's synonymous.
>>388475291
>He has never driven a car that could bread down at any given time.
>>388475520
No, my cars don't loaf around.
>>388472065
because it's short for AVERAGE drop rate, my dude.
>>388475803
no it's not, stop contributing to OP
>>388475998
of course it is, and I saged like anyone with a brain would. Nobody in the history of ever has been under the impression that a drop rate was a consistent, guaranteed function. There is no difference between the two concepts.
>>388475646
I love you anon.
>>388476293
you're a retarded american who doesn't understand the mathematical definition of rate
fucks sake your education system is bad
>>388473257
You are, relative to the top surface of the treadmill track.
