but your rate of speed is an description, a function of your distance travelled over a discrete amount of time. you could be driving at 100mph for a while and 20mph for a while and finish your journey and work out your rate of speed at 50mph

the drop rate is the rate at which you would see drops appear if you could kill the enemy many many many times over

drop rate is easier than saying probability of this item dropping

most games treat rates differently, there's pure rng where stuff like your can happen and pseudo rng that will make the event less/more likely to happen when straying from the supposed rate
