Barely anybody bought the Xbox either. However, it did slightly outsell the Game Cube. PS2 completely dominated the generation.

PS2 sales - 157.68 million
Xbox sales - 24.65 million
Game Cube - 21.74 million

Of course the Game Cube was actually profitable because they made a profit off the system and the first party games. Xbox just lost money.

Sony should have dominated in the next generation. But then, 599 US Dollars happened and they almost destroyed themselves. They did manage to tie with the 360 in the end, but still sold less than the Wii.
