It's a port of the arcade version. I think the arcade still has a few songs that didn't make it into the PS4 version because of licencing though. If you played "Future Tone prelude" then you know what you're getting.

On hard? Yes. On extreme? Probably not. It takes some serious dedication to even survive some of the 10 star songs. Even 8.5 star songs will be brutal for you if you were able to beat the 10 star songs in the vita games.

I'm not completely sure on how they choose and the licensing behind it, but indeed most of the songs came from the community. The rest of them are commissions for the games, also made with the Vocaloid software.

The gameplay is mostly the same, but instead of arrows Future Tone has multi notes (ie: x and o) and holds are optional. Stars notes are also replaced with slide notes, which use the joysticks and are much more forgiving.

I think every song has at least an easy or normal chart so I suppose so. Haven't really played much on those levels personally.

Haven't played any vocaloid games, I just love the standard rhythm game formula (tapping to music with simple controls.) and don't mind the songs in these ones.

Maybe there's some fine print thing that allows them to use songs made by customers? Or the fact that they'd own the voices? Though I feel like most people who got one in would be ecstatic to have their songs included regardless.

As long as it plays like a Taiko game where I can play with just pressing buttons at the right time and the difficulty comes from the patterns/actually going along with the song, I'm interested. I don't want any of that fancy gimmick stuff you see a lot in rhythm games.

I'd say it's more drilling in the ability to hit the buttons right than memorizing the patterns. They're pretty straightforward in Intense Voice but actually doing all those multi spams and 360s at 200bpm is hell.

That's just 10 stars. As I said earlier, 8.5 seems to be a threshold and up until then everything is fine. At least it was for me. Now that I played FT for a bit longer I can beat most 9,5 star songs but I still struggle with some of the 10 star songs.

It has some extra features over the one that's currently out. It's basically the same game though with a glorified patch. Most notably are 2 new songs. You'll be able to upgrade the regular version to the new DX version as DLC though.

Looks like there wouldn't be enough room to easy move your hands around and do fast notes with two hands. Could use the bottom row of buttons with the arcade layout and top row for slides but it looks like a Dualshock would be better in the long run. You get more points for using the sticks for slides too.

As someone who already owns a digital JP copy and the season pass, what do I get from upgrading to DX? It's just gonna be the two songs, isn't it? And they're probably gonna charge out the ass for it?

There's a photo mode I think, but yes the main draw in are the 2 new songs. Actually when DX was announced there were reports of it being 3 new songs. News sites that reported on it later changed it to 1 and now it's 2. I know it's wishful thinking but wokada recently released a new song, maybe it's infact 3 songs but they wanted to keep it secret for a while.

Rosary Pale is one of the harder 8* songs in Future Tone. The bpm ranges from 60-145, making the intro the slowest in the game. There are many long chains of overlapping notes (spams), one of which requires even-number note switches and another requiring a double 360 pattern. Dual wielding is an absolute necessity here.
