If money steers production focus, why didn't they make a PUBG clone? That fucking game is even bigger than Dota now.
>>
don't worry, they will a mod out of csgo and sell that
>>
>>388459154
Artifact is them trying to cash in on them Hearthstone dollars. A PUBG clone will come soon enough. They definitely have the manpower with Half life turning to No life
>>
>>388459154
THEY ARE making a PUBG competitor, two actually, one is a game mode in CS:GO, the other project is that Valve has had Dante Buckley working at their office for several months now, and it's all but confirmed that Onward will become a new Valve ip.

They haven't had enough time to shit one out yet.

Also remember Valve are really, REALLY lazy and hate doing real work like making games.

And besides, they're making a fucking killing off PUBG too because they get a cut of every sale and lootcrate and shit.

They're probably only going after hearthstone because it isn't on steam.
>>
>>388460661
im actually fine with this

SHUT UP ANON DON'T GIVE THEM IDEAS
>>
>>388459154
Card game is easier to make than a pubg clone. The return on investment is higher.
>>
>>388460950
>Also remember Valve are really, REALLY lazy and hate doing real work like making games.
you realise that valve getting involved in hardware development is actually a much tougher ballgame than game development right?

>really, REALLY lazy and hate doing real work
retard
>>
pubg will lose a large portion of it's base within 8 months
>>
>>388462059
Valve is a game developer.

Their repeated failures to enter the hardware market don't change that.

And they're a fucking lazy ass one because they add content to their games at a snails pace and the vast majority of it wasn't even made by them.

Also the fact that people at valve routinely get bored on whatever they're working on and shelve it to do something else they also won't finish is pretty well documented.
>>
>>388459154
>why didn't they make a PUBG clone?

Don't give Valve any ideas
>>
More importantly, why hasn't ANY major publisher put out an actual well made version of PUBG yet? These types of games have been around for ages now and PUBG is an unfinished mess, yet it is still the most played game ever
>>
>>388462525

Couple reasons:

1. Most major publishers deal in consoles instead of PCs where the genre is most popular
2. Most consolefags are more comfortable just playing CoD/Battlefield and aren't interested in battle royale stuff
3. They're probably still deciding what existing IP they can cannibalize for something in that genre, because fuck original IPs
>>
>>388462301
and google were search engine developers before branching off into literally every conceivable direction.

there's no law that says you can only do one thing. you're just upset because they don't make the games you want anymore. but that's ok because plenty of other people enjoy their games still.
>>
>>388460661
>one is a game mode in CS:GO
More info on this?
>>
>>388459154
It's possible they've already started work on one, but it's in the very early stages of development so they're not ready to show it. Do you really think they first presented Artifact like a week after getting the idea?
>>
>>388461676
>pubg elements

like...guns?
>>
>>388462301
>Valve is a game developer.
>hire hardware experts
>some anon still calls you only a gamedev
>>
>>388463235
The difference being that Google still keeps their search engine relevant while Valve have mothballed all of their single-player IPs and barely develop games anymore.
So sure, every business eventually diversifies, but when they abandon what gave them the opportunities to do so, they lose respect and deservedly so.
>>
>>388463842
Look at Valve News Network's videos about CS:GO's source 2 upcoming features
>>
>>388459154
They will. Knowing how long Valve takes to do anything, we might see something in three years to end of humanity. Somewhere in-between.
>>
>>388464270
none of valve's singleplayer games are relevant in the present. how do you innovate what are effectively dead ends. portal 2 took what they did in portal to a logical conclusion, they added all manner of mechanics and to add any more would be unnecessary bloat.

hl2:ep2 was basically as far as they could take half life. people were getting bored of that kind of linear fps experience. the episodes were far too story driven and the gameplay was lacking. episode 2 barely had any new gameplay aspects when you compare it to episode 1 and hl2. you look at more recent singleplayer fps games like wolfenstein or doom and you see that they embrace crazier more fast paced gameplay and there's less of a focus on the story. so while you can dream about how amazing hl2:ep3 would have been you should accept that it would've ended in disappointment regardless.
>>
>>388464971
And you're saying this all from some position of authority, I assume? Here is a fact: in recent history, there have been an overwhelming number of story-driven games in first and third-person and they're more popular now than ever before. People want more narrative experiences, gameplay be damned, it's why series like The Witcher, Uncharted, and The Last of Us continue on.
It's insane that Valve won't capitalize on this demand with the Half-Life series, the first acclaimed atmospheric narrative-driven first-person experience. The real reason they're not doing it is because they don't have the talent and organization to pull it off anymore, so they "diversify" into simpler things like running a cash shop and developing "me too" products.
>>
>>388466339
what so now you want valve to just make 'more of the same'? the thing is valve aren't interested in making more of the same, they want each release to improve on the last and be different. all those games you listed are derivative. why do you need mroe narrative experiences anyway when so many narrative experiences already exist out there? half life's story was a lost-tier asspull 95% of the time so why does it matter that valve aren't interested in making more of it.

>the real reason they're not doing it is because they don't have the talent and organization to pull it off anymore

you are so fucking petty it's unbelievable. i'm kinda glad valve don't bother making fags like you happy
>>
>>388466751
>hurr durr I have no argument I'll just go ad hominem
Wow, talk about petty. It's like you took it personally.
Are all valvefags this hopelessly brainwashed?
>>
>>388466751
>they want each release to improve on the last and be different
they're queens who want to "revolutionize" games, not make good games. Hmm, how do you improve on half life 2?
>more and better guns
>more and smarter enemies
>more interesting and challenging puzzles
>better story and character interactivity
>better setpieces, more varied and better looking environments
>better vehicles, maps better designed for vehicles
>more advanced physics that can be used in even more ways (other than "see-saw puzzle" and "gravity gun projectile"), destructible environments
You can improve games by a shitload just by adding and polishing content, especially a game as anemic as half life 2.
But apparently they want to make an VR open world RPG that gives you rimjobs, or nothing at all.

source: my ass

>>388459154
maybe they're already working on it
>>
>>388467846
That's what we're given, nothing at all. It's either that they're too perfectionist and obsessed with fame to just make a good game, or even worse: they're too jewish to do it. Take your pick.
>>
>>388468204
>so jewish they released dota 2 for free when EVERY OTHER MOBA charges for heroes
hmmm ok

any one else notice ?
they must be fucking with us...
>>
>>388468363
Dota 2 would have tanked if it sold heroes, it relied on being a purely better version of dota 1 to capture the enormous userbase, it was a purely economic decision.
>>
>>388466751
Why do I need more card games anyway when so many card games already exist out there?
>>
>>388468363
>dota 2 for free
Are you so underage b& that you forgot they were selling the fucking BETA for so long?
Then they came up with the scheme to give people discount coupons and eventually free copy coupons via Steam to get word-of-mouth to spread faster. They're exploitative motherfuckers who don't give a shit about releasing anything good anymore, they just want mindshare and profit.
>>
>>388463842
They're ripping the assets and coding used in E.Y.E's battle royale game mode since it runs on source too
>>
>>388468495
I too see a to katakana in there
Great eyes, anonymous!
>>
>>388468535
nah, they did it because picking/counterpicking is a big part of dota and charging for heroes would seriously hamper that aspect of the game's strategy. 'purely economic decision' my ass
>>388468807
because valve are making a card game that is unlike other card games.
>>388468817
>selling the fucking BETA
yeah and most people were smart enough to get a beta key for free.
>came up with the scheme to give people discount coupons and eventually free copy coupons via Steam
doesn't sound exploitative to me lol.
