Same way Pachinko is legal in Japan.

If it's dispensing tickets instead of money, it's not gambling.
>>
>>388447613
It's a game of "skill".
Gambling machines are games of "chance".

This makes it "not gambling".

>>
>>388448504
I don't understand how stacker games aren't illegal.
They market it as a "game of skill", but it's entirely up to chance if the machine will even let you win.
The machine has settings that lets it go easy on you 1 in every 80 attempts, but this can easily be set to 100, 500, 1000, etc.
You literally cannot get the last line unless you're playing during one of these rare chances where the machine is letting you play fairly.
Otherwise, one guy could empty the machine out in 5 minutes.
>>
I miss my arcade. Spider Stomp was my fucking jam.
>>
>>388448504
Stacker is the same rigged gambling shit as all of the other machines. You can hit the button with pinpoint accuracy for the last block and you stacking it will depend entirely on whether or not it's set to start actually winning.
>>
>>388448737

If he's working on them then he probably just rigged them to have a high success rate. Usually those things don't spit out shit until a certain amount of money's been dropped.

>>
>>388448737
There was someone doing that a few years back at one of the stores and they ended up getting fired for setting the games up for their friends. The real secret is a lot of the games are set to win only sometimes so you can't game the system, but a few of the wheel games actually let you win the jackpot as many times as you want.

Just play Time Crisis, the ticket games suck.

this was like almost two years ago so any of the specific tricks i don't remember sadly. the only real memory i have is there is a big spinning game on there where there's multipliers and you just have to pull the lever when it hits a certain number and it will every single time land on the highest number. That's how majority of the big games are - pull the lever when it hits a certain area and it'll land in the same place every time. Sorry for the awful info but I don't remember anything, your best bet is to wait to see a young guy playing on a ticket machine during his break and just ask him yourself

At first I thought arcade gaming was truly dead in London after seeing the trash that was Namco Funscape, but then I went to both Las Vegas Soho and Vega and gained a bit of faith.

Las Vegas Soho has Taiko, Initial D, fighting cabs with multiple games installed, Tekken, Groove Coaster, Out Run 2, light gun shooters, Bishi Bashi, Pump it Up, ITG and Jubeat. Very good arcade, with the only down side being that it's on the gayest street in London.

Meanwhile, VEGA is more of an underground arcade. Literally. It shares the same building as a gambling place that allowed the UK bemani community members to put their cabs down there as well as supporting e amuse. (Not officially of course)

VEGA has DDR 2014, Pop'n Music 23 (I think it's 23 at least, can't remember), Jubeat, Beatmania IIDX, Street Fighter cabs, some retro cabs and I think they had to remove Reflec Beat due to some issue.

Overall though, arcade gaming isn't dead yet in London.

The prizes behind the ticket counter are shitty enough that the amount of effort (and money) needed to accrue the required tickets more than offsets the actual cost of the prizes.

Same principle applies to those games that have built-in prize cabinets for things like smartphones and gaming handhelds; they nearly always have a owner-settable setting to only pay out a prize only after a certain amount of money has been inserted into the machine. This allows the owner to configure the machine so that it will always take in more money than the MSRP of the prizes it gives out.

As an example, in "Flamin' Finger" (pic related) the object is to use your finger to trace through a randomly-generated maze before the timer reaches zero. The trick, however, is that the speed at which the timer counts down is not only determined by how much time has passed, but ALSO by how far into the maze the player is: the further the player progresses, the faster the timer counts down, such that for a competent player time will always run out just before the player reaches the end. Once the aforementioned inserted money amount is triggered, the timer will count down normally, allowing skilled-enough players to finish the maze and get a prize.

If anyone here is a britfag, they should check out the Las Vegas Arcade in Soho and the Heart of Gaming in Croydon.
The Las Vegas Arcade has some great machines you won't be able to find anywhere else in the UK like Jubeat, Initial D Arcade Stage 8, Outrun 2, Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3DX+, and Groove Coaster 3EX: Dream Party. There were even chosen last year for the Europe location test of the latest DDR game.
The Hear of Gaming has a mix of old classic arcade machines (like Daytona and a bunch of those fighting cabs where you face each other) and installations of console games (PS4s and Xbones equipped with Tekken 7, Guilty Gear, SF5 as well as older consoles with Everdrives inserter). They also have a system where you only pay to get in and everything is free.
Last time I was there, they even had a 16 man Saturn Bomberman setup.

Last arcade I went to was at the Orleans casino and they doubled the price on everything, removed all the actual games and move to this card based token/ticket system.

The US version of this is one of the few (normally) ticket-based games at the local free play arcade. Second gator from the right barely comes out though, thankfully they seem to prioritize repairing the good shit and not the cash-in franchise games and handful of other ticket munchers because it's free play once you're in.
The other 4 (normally) ticket games are 3 skee-ball machines and a kids' basketball game. Like, actually for kids, because if you're an adult you can just stick your hand straight out and drop the ball in.

What, should people just get to play it for free? Why?
Video arcades came into being simply because the hardware needed to run the games was too big/pricey for consumers. They have a purpose.
Pac-Man on Atari at the time was nothing like the real thing. Most retro arcade ports onto consoles of the time are definitively inferior.
There's also the social aspect, and the atmosphere.
Plus, certain games have novelty value and special perhipherals that nobody would fuckin' use otherwise. I played Luigi's Mansion Arcade with a vaccum IR gun that had haptic feedback for sucking in ghosts and it was the fucking shit.
>>
>>388459096
They just don't give tickets. Their selection of those is limited to the ones I mentioned, i.e. some skill involved. No glorified slot machines like Big Bass or Deal or No Deal or anything like that. They have a couple of prize games near the very front of the arcade that actually take quarters (for obvious reasons) but no Stacker, thank fuck. It's just that one where you have to rock the ball back and forth up the plastic mountain and a crane game. Nobody touches that shit though because there's a million actual games you can play for free instead.
The place actually does have some little stuff you can get up front like pins with video game and comic book characters on them, but it's all purchased with cash. No tickets despite being in a similar display.

>play it for free

That's literally what I'm discussing with my posts. It's not completely free but you pay $15 and you can play everything that doesn't give prizes endlessly. They also have special events and shit, some indie dev came in with his cool arcade machines his team made to show them off, Cosmotrons or something. You can definitely have a profitable business where the machines themselves don't suck your quarters. It's a huge relief to just be able to jump off of shit games and endlessly play good ones, you'd probably spend way more than $15 in any standard arcade that way.

Today, now that arcades are a novelty, I think cover-charge businesses are more viable. Arcade machines aren't supposed to be exclusively used in arcades, either - some restaurants these days still have a couple, and there's no way they're gonna spend the time and money on regulating access to them. Thus, quarters. I don't know much about the economics, but there are some concerns that go along with it. What's to stop a kid from hogging one machine all day?

Japanese arcade chain that's spreading out west to California and some neighboring states.

Kind of wish theyd open one up in Hawaii somewhere. Fun Factory is kind of going down the same redemption-heavy path that national chains like Dave and Busters did, and that every other arcade is aping

A lot of antivirus software deliberately flags anything that can potentially be used for piracy/emulation. Independent stuff like MalwareBytes and Avast usually only target keygens/memory editors (Cheat Engine) and label them as such. Shit like Norton and McAffee will false positive over anything and stick it in the most generic categories.

at least I go down to Miami on occasion to Arcade Odyssey
they had Mushihimesama Futari Black Label on the floor at one point
I wish they'd fucking take care of their driving machines better (their Outrun 2 and Crazy Taxi cabs were the sorriest looking pieces of shit), but all their other shit is relatively well maintained and they had a bunch of pinball machines too.
and they had Virtual On, although people keep beating the machine up and jamming the coin slot and the lot, the operators probably hate me for bothering them constantly about it

they mostly suck ass for fighting game cabs though, although they did have Chaos Code, CVS2, and SF4 at one point

I usually end up spending most of my time and money playing Mad Planets, fucking love that game.

Crane games in most of the world are allowed to have variable claw grip strength until a payment threshold is reached. That means that if you hit the machine on the wrong end of the payment, it's physically impossible to win your prize because even if your positioning is perfect, the claw is too weak to actually catch it.

This is similar to how pachislo machines have payment levels ranging from downright miserly to more coins in than out (if the coins can only be redeemed for prizes).
>>
>>388462806
Yeah I figured this out on my own when playing the game at an arcade as a teenager, they bank on you rushing and paying attention to your finger more than the timer so they fuck you when you're not looking.
I stopped playing it forever once I figured it out, which after like 10 plays or so.
>>
>>388462150
Why does every arcade I go to have this one in particular? Was it just offered to every arcade for a cheap price, or did every arcade choose it because Sonic is more recognisable than a basic design?

I also saw a big 4 player version of this at Alton Towers Resort, with the holes being on each side of a cube shaped air hockey table. Some kids asked if they could join since I was short on players. Fun as hell.
>>
>>388462876
They're stuck on that 'high' they had, that pittance of a payout in comparison to the money lost.

>Of course I did end up spending ~150 on that day too, but hey, it's money spent on having fun so who cares!?
>>
>>388459054
The visuak style and aesthetic is similar, especially in the mechanical design, many of the standard mechanical enemies and bosses use the same sort of armor breaking visuals with more of the of the machine's frame being exposed as it gets more damaged, similar to hiw your character would lose armor parts until they were a mechanical skeleton in VO
>>
>>388456896
To be fair, there's not a very pressing need to reform them since there really aren't many arcades left. The main ticket stuff that are left are places like dave and busters and chuck e cheeses which while the games are unfair, aren't downright rigged.

I'm from London but I stayed at a disney resort in Florida back in 2001 when I was 7, my parent's had literally just divorced so my dad took me and my brother there on one last holiday before all his money was gonna be gone in the divorce.

We went to Downtown disney and did disneyquest so many fucking times, it was awesome. Designed a roller coast for my dad that made him throw up, and designed toys in the toy story make your own toy section

Then hit up the local toystore and got Medabots toys I dont think we had in England (At least they weren't out at the time) then McDonalds

I couldn't find the story right now, but this did happen once and there was a big legal stink about it. A casino slot machine dev once left in a debug code with the intention of later using it to cheat himself a big jackpot. The code would cause the machine to always give a jackpot after like 50 credits or so were played in a specific order. He went to a casino to test the code himself where he almost got caught because the credits he got from the jackpot kept winning when he tried to waste them all.
Since it was illegal for a casino dev to play themselves, he later sent a colleague to go enter the code so they could take off with the jackpot.

I don't remember how, but the two got caught and the case resulted in the creation of new laws pertaining to RNG in casino computers. There was a TV documentary about this, but I couldn't find it.

We still text each other once in a while, but I have not seen her in ages and the sex we had was just kinda spur of the moment. Would have never met her without the arcade though, so I am thankful. Plus, once you finally get laid, even if you suck at it, you do get a bit more confident in general, which does help you get other chicks. I still am not getting laid all the time, but I do at least score every couple months now, and weekly if I get an actual gf (rare).

I might see her again at a local con, and from what she has told me, she should be quite a bit hotter now, and I also think she is cosplaying as one of my old wafius, so with any luck I might get some weird cosplay sex, which would be a first for me.
