You don't have to hurry that much but if you completely ignore the main quest you will eventually fail, if you get within 60 days of the time limit just explore to the south east of the map until you find Necropolis, you can figure it out from there.


Also, don't make a low intelligence character, it's terrible in Fallout 1, have at least 4 INT to have any fun.

You can extend it once and there isn't that much content in FO1 anyway, just don't be daft and rest months away and you'll be fine. FO2 seems like it has a time limit at first but there really isn't, take all the time you want with that

yes, any build is viable, the game was created so that any botched, terrible build could still finish it. important doors can be lockpicked with zero skill for example if nothing else gets you past.
in any case, melee builds are very viable because of the slayer perk which turns every hit into a critical.

Install the restoration pack for both 1/2, they add some QOL fixes, bug fixes, unfinished content and graphical updates for modern machines.

Not really, I had loads of time left, just remember that if you got 20 days or so you need to head towards necropolis.

Agility and Perception need to be high or you'll get your ass kicked.

the interface is a bit hard to get into at first but you will get used to it.

a word of advice that i learned, you dont need to have stimpacks in the second slot to use it. just open the inv and left klick on the stimpack to use it (opining the inv cost action points so be carefully).

same with ammo if you need to use a weapon, just put to weapons on both slots.

now post your build so people can laugh at it.

no but it might feel that way playing the first time. you've got plenty of time to find what you need. you can also "add time" to the timer once you get to a certain city and have enough caps.

fallout 2 main quest is absolute shit imho but the rest of the game is good. you might feel obligated to hurry on it too because of the fucking shaman. fuck that guy and the main quest. just have fun exploring and doing side quests in fallout 2. also the main boss fight is absolutely a pain in the ass if you don't set it up /have a solid character build right.

and if you like the first two fallout games check out fallout 1.5 aka fallout resurrection and fallou of nevada. both are total conversion mods for fallout 2 the latter being a stand alone game not requiring fallout 2 installed.

put strength at 7 choose heavy hitter perk tag melee keep upping melee until you reach max percentage or until you're satisfied. use either spear sledghammer/supersledge they have a range of two. also get a ripper. you have to feed it energy cells but by the time you get that weapon energy cells shouldn't be a problem to come by.
i say put strength at 7 so if you get power armor you'll have 10 strength.also when you level choose the hth damage increase and the one that reduces the ap needed to punch or kick by one.

lol set up to fail. you need to up lockpick science and repair and take the elevator to the reactor at the end instead of facing the master head on. you don't need to up you small guns much more at least not past 100. if you try to fight the master you can only hope to beat him if you sport power armor and have a high powered gun. if you go that route you want to up your sg to around 130-150 maybe tagging throwing or energy weapons later if you level that high. also psycho will help too.
