Y6's heat moves suck, but that's only because you can actually do most of the past heat moves as normal moves due to the new fighting engine.
A lot of the hate towards Y6's engine seems misplaced to me. They're too used to the QTEs doing all of the work for them when you can actually grab people do back drops or kick them through windows as normal gameplay. You don't have to wait for a heat gauge.

If a game is dated, it's dated. You're either going to struggle with the earlier games and decide they're not for you, or you're going to playthrough them anyway.

You'd have a point if Yakuza weren't so iterative as a series. The major differences between each game are only combat improvements and QoL additions (this includes eliminating the shitty Y1 camera garbage, for example). These being the only big difference in the way the game feels means that playing the old ones after the new ones makes them a slog rather than just something you have to deal with.

Like I said, I would have accepted your point if the games didn't play so similarly apart from combat/QoL. But they do, and that pronounces the differences between (as an example) Kiwami and Y1 much more than the normal advancement of game design/tech does.

That's friggin retarded. The majority of the beloved movies from the 80s & 70s were just remakes of 1950s movies but the remakes were undeniably much better. (The Thing, The Fly) I've been with the Yakuza series ever since the original. I imported it and I never even played it in English. I really don't understand where all this damn purist elitism comes from. The hate for the Majima fanservice, I can understand because he was originally a menacing character due to his unpredicatability. The gameplay, the added minigames and such are way better in the remake. The only thing that was good about the original was the actual story. The story was decent for once and the atmosphere was very dark which is something that the series hasn't been since Y2.

Y6 tries to get dark again, but it's really retarded because the antgonists are basically a Nintendo-like coporation. They're not intimidating at all and it's these idiots who Kiryu 'dies' to. (kiryu gets shot the fuck up like a blood pinata.) Kiryu survives getting shot full of lead because he just does. Nothing kills that fucker for some reason. Most of the people within the Yakuza setting think that Kiryu is dead though.

My official head canon is that Kiryu died on top of the tower with Kaoru during the end of Y2. That was for sure when Yakuza felt the most epic, only for the rest of the series to devolve into a child rearing simulator. He now even takes care of Haruka's kid in Y6. That's the last thing that I want to do in a game that's called Yakuza.

That's the thing (no pun intended) - those films were Remakes. They borrowed some ideas and some visuals (some, not all) to make a different, yet familiar film.

Kiwami is more like The Psycho remake.

And the story while better than some of the later games, is presented like a PS2-game. There isn't enough exposition, some characters like Shinji just come and go (so his fate isn't all that sad in the end - he had like 3,5 scenes in the whole game). Kiwami was supposed to make things work, according to developers themselves. They even made new scenes with Nishki just to explain why he became such a trainwreck of a man.

And those newly-added scenes are great! But they clash with PS2 cutscenes and narrative.

My point is simple: they had to spend more time on the game. Instead they went on and hastly developed Kiwami - a decent game that contradicts itself.

[Spoiler] After Kazuma goes to jail, everyone sees Nishiki as a useless tool. And he hates it, but can't really do anything about it.

When Yumi disappears Reina cries and asks him "why couldn't he do anything to prevent it". Nishki thinks that she calls him useless and hits her. He is ashamed of his deed, though.

He gets his own clan for all his hard work and gets "best men from Kazama Family". Kashiwagi says that Nishki can take care of Kazuma after he gets out of jail.
But Kazama's guys are jerks. They disrespect Akira. They think that Nishki is a wimp and nothing like Kazuma.

Meanwhile his sister needs operation. One shady doctor suggest an operation and organ trasplant that would cost 30 million yen. Nishki doesn't have that kind of money, so he asks one of his men (the one that shittalked him before) to collect money. That jerk is pleased and humiliates Nishki. He also takes money from Kazama's territory - which infuriates Kashiwagi. He punches Nishki and says that "it woudn't happen under Kiryu".

Later Shimano says that Nishiki is a wimp and Kazama gave him arrogant jerks as clanmen just to fuck with the guy.
Later it appears that doctor scammed Nishki - he just needed 30 mils to pay his debts.
His sister dies.
He feels like everyone was against him - Kazama, Kashiwagi, his own men. So he murders one of his arrogant fucks and decides that he will make it to the top just to show everybody that he isn't a wimp. [/spoiler]

On one hand obviously the anime is easier to get into, but while it's not a bad adaptation by any means it arguably suffers from a bit of filler and the fact that the violence is mostly censored with vague light shows, pic related. But again, (most of the time) great animation and acting

Anime for first time, yes there is a bit of filler but only at the beginning, and half of it is actually much needed character development that manga didn't have at the beginning since it was written as a one-shot due to not expecting success.
Furthermore it rotates some early events chronology to make better sense than in the manga.

Granted they are horrible way to start the series due to how much shit they cut, but that's not the point of those movies. They're just there to show you the best fight scenes and some OC material.
