FFVII was never really good to begin with. It may have been a milestone at the time, but it's visuals have aged like milk and the translation is so bad. I'm convinced people only like the game because they played it as children, thus their perception of the game is different. This is one of those cases where a remake is necessary.

Sure, the gameplay is fine. But it's just "fine". I'm playing a JRPG, so I'm slogging through "fine" gameplay for 40-80 hours to see how the story unfolds. And the translation makes FFVII's story incomprehensible and the dialogue cringe-worthy.

I wouldn't worry, except that the last good FF game was 12 and SE couldn't even be trusted to slap HD textures onto that game without fucking it up. Maybe if they stop spending money on a shitty clash of clans clone and YouTube ads for said shitty game they could focus on shit people actually want.

Yes they should, they show off the depth and breadth of the combat mechanics. XIII in particular you will be paradigm switching like a madman for optimal play which was great. The game rewards squeezing every ounce of use out of every option.
