I don't think Link's name is often remembered. He's normally just referred to as 'The Hero of X'

Nobody fucking remembers the Ganon shit being real, it's always just legends told around the campfire. By the time anyone realizes it was real, it's too fucking late. The only time anyone had time to prepare was in BOTW and by that time Ganon had grown too powerful that even an army of robots didn't help except for the 10,000 years earlier.

In Wind Waker, it was tradition to dress up every kid as the hero in hopes that he'd turn out to be one. Of course, the irony is that WW's Link *isn't* the chosen hero, and instead bruteforces his quest.

Also, unlike Zelda, Link's name isn't actually canonically Link every time. You can name him, remember.

I played it briefly with friends and we had a good time but it only lasted one session. We never got together again in a capacity to do that (we get together weekly for a movie night at my place but we like to watch quietly and not interrupt 'cause there are tons of people there). I'd finished every Zelda game up to that point so I knew I had to finish this one so I eventually decided I'd take a weekend and finish it on my own. With that lens, TFH is terrible. It should be more playable on your own, but it's practically impossible for some puzzles.

Link is just a placeholder name. The hero's name is whatever the player names him. There's a good chance that all the "Links" in Hyrule history have all had different names.
