The Death battle was retarded, but not because Doomguy lost: it was retarded for comparing them to begin with.

Doom only exists inside the context of it's own game mechanics and rule of cool. There's no lore or attempt at groundedness. Doomguy more or less operates on the video game equivalent of cartoon logic.

On the other hand, the Halo franchise has over 20 novels, is halfway in between hard and soft scifi, and is explictly lore based: The game mechanics, damage and speed values, etc, are all non-canonical: What the books say how much damage a given weapon does or how fast characters move is. It's a lore based series and it's lore actually tries to stay grounded.

It's inherently impossible to compare, because you start out going

I was mostly memeing but here's my take on the whole "Doomguy fought his way out of Hell" thing: Hell is full of pussies. The demons in Doom die in like 1-3 shotgun shots. The aliens of the Covenant are roughly on-par with demoms, except for a few types of demons like Cyberdemons or a Spiderdemon...but the Covenant has scary fucking technology, like Scarabs and Wraiths. I'm not actually saying MC is better than Doomguy but I don't think they're too far apart either.

Doomguy can't be put in those comparisons because he's essentially the rule of cool. On an objective level, doomguy cannot kill MC because he's inferior mentally and physically, according to objective data. In actuality, of the comparison took place by the laws of Doomguy's setting, MC would get obliterated because the whole point of doomguy is being an unstoppable ripping and tearing machine. Of course he can't do that objectively, because he's dependant on the laws of his setting and the rule of cool.
