The game was fun so these things didn't seem to matter so much. These days games aren't fun and the glaring technical issues seem a hell of a lot more obvious or worse since there's no actual enjoyment to take your mind off the bad things. People like to say "fun" is a buzzword that means nothing, but fun can mask a lot of cracks in most forms of entertainment.
