I started playing the first Fallout yesterday. When I returned to Shady Sands from Vault 15 and talked to that faggot at the gate he told me his gf was kidnapped and asked me to rescue her. I replied that I would if there was a reward and he grumbled and accepted. I then chose what seemed like the obvious dialogue option of stating that unless he specified the reward I would not do it to which he responded by taking out his gun and shooting me which turned the entire town hostile.
I thought you guys said this game was good.

No. Turn-based combat, the old graphics and the isometric view is enough too disinterest lots of people, but looking beyond that it's still different than 3/4 and NV. 1 and 2 are RPGs, not shooters - there is a much, much larger emphasis on character building and it's harder to do so without prior knowledge about the game. The games are also much less forgiving and all those things combined creates a steep learning curve.

I replay Fallout 2 quite a lot (like once every year or so), but I hadn't play Fallout for like 5 years until the other day and I'd forgotten how short the game is. My Fallout 2 runs are usually around 30 hours, but I finished Fallout in 8 hours going at a leisurely pace.
