depends on the game.

So far I played Final Fantasy X, X-2 and Silent hill 4 on pcsx2 and they all worked fine, some textures missing on X-2

But some games like Jak and Daxter and sequels have too many graphical errors to be considered playable

PS2 emulation is good guys, you just have to look up the wiki configure the settings every time you play a different game, and then put up with weird texture bugs and graphical glitches!

I'm new to this, is there actually a cable I can buy to make ps2 look good on an hdtv? Direct me to an amazon link or something

I have this and doesn't matter if I use the 3 colored cables or the scart adapter thingy it looks like shit
>>
>>388336640
You want to buy Component (not composite, what you posted) cables. There are 5 cables coloured green, blue, red, white, red. The version for the PS3 works on a PS2 as well.
>>
>>388336424
The same reason you can't plug a SNES or n64 into your HD TV and have it work
>>
>>388336739
SNES and N64 use 240p timing which fucks up a lot of HDTVs. A PS2 won't do that except in a very small number of games.
>>
>>388336721
Thanks man, so this, right? And the image will be fine? Or playing on a crt is always the best option
>>

scart.jpg
67KB, 732x500px
>>388336852
Yep, just like that.
Certain CRTs have inputs for that. Count yourself lucky if you own such a CRT, because that's the best quality.
You could also just use a true RGB SCART cable rather than one of those composite adaptors. That'll definitely work in a CRT, and if you're using a PS2 then the advantages of component (progressive scan) will be slim.

>>388336981
It's fucked for a variety of reasons.
>>
>>388335834
Both are great. #1 recommendation for emulation. Grim Grimoire is a strong #2 but I can think of a few other candidates.

Modded ps3 might be good for that. Had one but never actually tried the ps2 emulation on it. I'm just assuming that it worked fine enough.

I don't know what it is about ps2 games but almost always if you actually buy those from flee markets and shit the discs are scratched to hell and back. Just luck if your ps2 will run those. Finally bothered to mod memorycard to run freemcboot but even that is pain in the ass if you're running games from usb stick.

Once and for all

Best ps2 emulator is pcsx2, some games run fine, some don't and you need to change settings for almost everygame

If you want to play ps2 on a tv, either play on a crt or buy COMPONENT cables like these to play on an hdtv

that's it
>>
>>388342658
Welp now you know
>>
>>388342641
Because the point is that RGB SCART and Component are equivalent. The point was that I was checking if you were actually using a real RGB SCART cable to compare against Component. With a pic like that it's reasonable to guess that you confused a real RGB SCART cable for a composite cable with a SCART adaptor.

If you can find any other comparisons between RGB SCART and YPbPr, be my guest.

It's not a fair test. He is cheesing it, this "evidence" can be ignored. If you have to gimp RGB scart to look as good as component does, it is not as good. His own words:

probably shittiest picture but looks fine enough on
scart
>>

You made the claim there is no diffirence, burdon of proof is on you.

Fine enough, but Component would be better. Those SH3 images showed massive cha

Try again.

We're comparing video signals here, not consoles. Unless you have some proof that the PS2's RGB output is gimped in some way?

Well damn nigga, looks like component wins.

>if your display supports 480p
This was never a point of contention.
>>
>>388347949
Diffirent Consoles do indeed output diffirent video signals.

Well we aren't talking about CRT are we fucker?? Every image so far has been about HDTV's. OP's whole thread is about HDTVs. Post actual proof of your own or fuck off already.
>>
>>388348215
The component sample at the end of the video looks more washed out than the RGB sample, though.
>>
>>388348484
He literally tells you his entire video is about DON'T USE ANYTHING BUT COMPONENT. EVEN RGB SCART (WHICH HE LIKES) IS INFERIOR TO COMPONENT.

Did you actually watch the whole video? Anyway anon, at this point you have shown nothing of real note, you don't even seem to have your own component to make an argument with right now. What we do know for sure:
>composite is FUCKING TERRIBLE
>RGB Scart MIGHT be nearly as good
>but fuck it you might as well just go full Component if you can
>>
>>388348484
Component looks way brighter on the title screen than RGB
>>
>>388348831
The point I was making this whole time is
>RGB SCART and YPbPr are equivalent unless you're using progressive scan
Note how he mentions as an aside that RGB SCART is best until you reach the Dreamcast generation (i.e. the generation where 480p actually became possible)

download the latest night build,it should be 1.4.0
>>
>>388349072
Anon there are a LOT of games including mother fucking Haunting grounds that can reach 480p. Which component does better. You might as well go Component.

We're in agreement then.
>>
>>388349512
That component is better? Sure.
>>
>>388349695
Yeah. Progressive scan is good stuff, it's the reason I'm using Component in my PS2.
Outside of progressive scan there's not really much point. Progressive scan support on PS2 isn't as widespread as Xbox, Gamecube or even Dreamcast. My CRT only has SCART input, so I use RGB SCART for playing PS1 games.
>>
>>388349909
For me it's Component on PS2, if i want to play PS1 i play on my PS3 via HDMI
>>
>>388350068
I gotta get dat 240p. PS3 can only output 480i which spoils a lot of sprite graphics. It's one of the reasons I enjoy emulating on my Wii.
>>
>>388332393
Not that guy, but literally the only ps2 game i'm interested in is haunting ground and i can't emulate that with a pc that could run doom 2016 on nightmare settings in 1080p on over 100 fps.
In this game it's a combination of hard to emulate and having an amd cpu instead of an intel one.
Hell, even the games that do work have visual glitches in pcxs2.
>>
>>388333510
You got lucky, intel is the one known for working well.
My Amd fx 8320 can't emulate shit when it comes to ps2
>>
>>388349335
That shit is from fucking January 2016 and it's outdated as hell
