I want this company and franchise to crash and burn so bad it's irrational.

I dunno, I like Destiny a lot after playing the Taken King and Rise of Iron, so I'm excited for Destiny 2. Even if it's more of the same, it's more of what I enjoy.

destiny 2 is significantly improved from the first, meaning that even if it's still a shit game, it's better than the first and the hostage community will still enjoy it thoroughly.
>>
I mean I wasn't going to get it on consoles since I got Destiny up to and including Taken King on PS4 and I just hated how it felt with a gamepad, but I'll probably get this one on PC since this year's COD is dogshit, BF1 does nothing for me, and I lost interest in Overwatch style shooters.

Not him but the raids are pretty damn fun to do with groups of friends. Probably the only reason I bother with the game. And for as much as you want to deride them for being simple you'd be amazed how many people still somehow utterly fail at them
>>
>>388329632
That's not too bad of a reason to do it. The more sinister reason is that it pushes their fans who own a PC and console to buy the game twice.
>>
>>388329604
That's only one mechanic of that fight that's going on with five other mechanics going on at the same time.
>>
>>388329340
that's every video game. Someone sees it as shit, others enjoy it. People just accentuate the positives and negatives on both ends. Different people enjoy different stuff.
I enjoy call of duty. I buy the new one every single year, get the season pass too. Does that mean I don't know they're doing dumb shit? Of course not. But I just don't care.
>>
For some reason, people were acting like this and Division were in a competition despite not being on opposed systems or anything like that.
>>
>>388329705
Because Bungie is already dead. The shambling corpse it is now just needs to be put down.
>>
Is Destiny a good idea with mediocre execution or is it just shit from beginning to end?
>>
>>388329775
I only double dip if the time between a game release is something actually significant like with GTA V (everyone knew it would go on PC, but everyone also knew they were holding it back for 8th gen consoles), or if spoilers are a potentially significant concern (I was going to double dip on MGSV before they moved the release date on PC up to the same day as PS4/Xbone).
>>
>>388329943
It's the first one. They made a lot of dumb decisions in the first game and are hopefully not doing the same thing in the second. Like hiding the entire story behind a fucking web app
>>
>>388329943
Great idea with mostly shit execution because bungie fired all their talent halfway through development of the last game

>That's not too bad of a reason to do it.
The problem is that it implies ALL expansions will go on console like a few weeks or month before PC, even if the PC version is done.
They should just take advantage of the fact that raids are always online events that can't be played solo and host some of the raid files on their server. Boom, no need to delay the PC version because then it can't be datamined.
>>
>>388328802
Stop enjoying games you faggot, just complain about them all the time and be angry
>>
Destiny is poop. Marathon reboot when?
>>
>>388329632
I'm pretty sure the reason is because the PC version was outsourced to someone else to handle and they need a little more time. Bungie hasn't made a PC game in how long?
>>
I misread that post and got stuck on "irrational" and hence ended on wikipedia:

>2013 - Irrational releases BioShock Infinite on 26 March to critical acclaim, selling 11 million copies as of May 2015.
>2017 - Irrational Games is renamed "Ghost Story Games" on 24 February.
>Ghost Story Games is an American video game developer based in Westwood, Massachusetts and led by Ken Levine. The studio is the rebranding of Irrational Games as announced in February 2017, and while still the same business subsidiary under Take-Two Interactive, the rebranding was considered a fresh start by the founders as they move into more emergent narrative-driven titles compared to the larger titles they had made under Irrational.

It seems they now make interactive movies.
>>
>/v/ fags literally do nothing but sit around screaming about all the games they hate and screaming at people who have fun playing them

>>
>>388329632
The raids get figured out in their first few hours of release anyway. Then everyone just goes to youtube and watches a video to learn the mechanics.

The former. The first game had a lot of really weird and dumb design decisions like the aforementioned lore through a web app and a general blandness to the gameplay reliant on grinding.

Bringing back new gear is fine as llong as;

1. The old gear doesn't break the meta again

2. Reintroducing old content isn't a substitute for real new content.

If Destiny 2 has no droughts and a steady stream of new content I don't mind Bungie adding say, 1 old exotic to the game each month via a quest or just dropping it into loot tables

Character progression is tied to your gear. Or at least it was in Destiny the last time I played. Max character level was like 30 or 40 and you reached that just by playing the game and gaining experience from whatever, but that level didn't really mean much. What was important was your Light Level which maxed at 400(?) and was determined by your gear, so it was a better measurement of how powerful you were.

You also had subclass skill trees that needed to be unlocked with play as well as weapons and armors that had their own skill trees, too.
>>
>>388332371
How would one approach this?
>>
>>388331871

No, because console players also don't know what the fuck is going on. The switch to the Cabal as the major villain is fucking dumb as shit considering the Hive (and possibly the Vex) actually serve the Darkness. We've gone from fighting an enemy that literally gains tangible power from inflicting its philosophical system upon the universe, to your bog standard bellicose alien empire. Even the Vex would have been more interesting.

And they better have a damned good explanation for why Rasputin didn't act when the Red Legion invaded the City.

So there's only one stat that matters? How complex is character progression compared to aRPGs or something like Warframe or even Borderlands?
I tried to read the Destiny wiki and clicked on a few armor, skill and gear related articles but to me it just seems you get a fixed set of abilities and a certain item gives all stats so you don't even make a build of sorts and only improve via item level? Is that how shallow it is or am I missing something?

If you mean returning exotic gear specifically, from all that gameplay that released like 2 days ago I've seen some new and probably less old.

>New Weapons - the 3 exotic weapons seen in the beta, a rocket launcher, a pulse rifle, and a grenade launcher
>New Armor - A hunter helmet and chest piece, a warlock helmet and chest piece, and a titan gauntlet and maybe a helmet

>Old Weapons - Hardlight
>Old Armor - A titan helmet, a warlock chest piece, and I can't remember if there was any hunter stuff shown
>>
>>388333185

Because honestly, it can be salvaged. The stuff that never actually made it into the game shows that they have at least one person over there who knows what the fuck they're doing.

Everything to do with Oryx is pretty fucking great. They just need to bring that quality of worldbuilding to pretty much everything else.

But I'll readily admit I'm not particularly optimistic. D2 seems to be going for a tonal shift that might result in it just becoming some bland sci-fi adventure nonsense.
>>
>>388332579
Look for small game review websites and see if they're looking for extra people, if they do then they'll probably want freelancers meaning no pay but you get to keep the games you review + the occasional invite to events like I said before.

Some tips:

- Always mention which consoles you have. The more you have, the higher the chance they'll accept you.
- If you live in a non-English speaking country, still apply to English websites. Those always receive the most review copies/keys
- If possible, choose sites that are owned by people living relatively close to you. It's easier that way to speak directly with your contacts, resulting in more invites to events
- NEVER NEVER NEVER act like your opinion on games matter on twitter/facebook/other social media when writing reviews. This will hurt your reputation and most review sites don't like it when you're acting like a douche
>>

But isn't the entire Vex hierarchy a simulation of the Hive? The Vex encountered the Hive elsewhere in the universe and concluded it was the most efficient way for complete domination
>>
>>388333185
This.

Why do people cling to this "b-but the only thing wrong with Destiny was the story!" meme? Destiny sucked because the gameplay loop is a repetitive, boring slog through bullet sponges, not because some NPC had no time to explain why they didn't have time to explain.

There are plenty of games with batshit retarded stories that are still fun to play despite this: see literally any JRPG. I remember playing Final Fantasy 10 in high school and having literally no idea what the fuck was going on but I still had a blast.

Destiny is just a fucking slot machine simulator.

All the Cabal we see in Destiny 1 are merely a scouting party for the Cabal empire. Despite being at the bottom of the ladder in Cabal hierarchy, they still had the might to plant enough explosives on Oryx's Dreadnaught to blow up THE ENTIRE SOLAR SYSTEM. If that's the kind of power and strategy you see from a scouting party, you can only imagine what the main forces of the Cabal empire are capable of. Rasputin can't do anything if all his satellites nuclear orbital strikes have been blown to shit

>But isn't the entire Vex hierarchy a simulation of the Hive?

The Hive abides by sword logic, but they didn't create it. And when the Vex encountered Oryx, they concluded that sword logic was in fact the proper way to go about doing things, because Oryx was a fucking unstoppable monster in his own realm (because he abided by sword logic). But it's simply a philosophy, not an organizational structure.

And remember that Oryx got completely BTFO by the Guardians, who rejected sword logic. That should let the Vex know it's not a foolproof path to divinity.

I think the "Marvel vibe" is just from Activision trying to market the game to casuals. Look at the PR for the original games; Dad Rock played over live action guardians: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZyQK6kUdWQ

The final game felt nothing like that.

I think the same is true for D2. Yes; Cayde will just be Nathan Fillion acting like Nathan Fillion but the rest of the game doesn't have to be that

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MGuklrmm_U

This CGI trailer for example has no "Marvel vibe" whatsoever.

The original had great gameplay and stages but low content and flawed online
I'll buy it for cheap

Yeah that was about time the Vex invaded the Dreadnought and Oryx ripped a hole in space and tossed Crota into the Vex home world(?) and BTFO a bunch of them
>>
>>388333582
TTK was great but only in the dialogue and the cutscenes, there is a huge narrative disconnect between the gameplay and the plot that can't be bridged because you cannot have interesting or novel gameplay in a co-op game. The enjoyment comes not from experiencing the material, but from pulling the lever on the slot machine and collecting loot.

>they still had the might to plant enough explosives on Oryx's Dreadnaught to blow up THE ENTIRE SOLAR SYSTEM

The plan was simply to blow up the dreadnoughts core. That's not an example of power. And seeing as the two shield brothers only did that because they were pissed their Primus got killed, it wasn't a particularly good example of strategy, either.

The Cabal are fucking boring, mate. Sorry.

>Rasputin can't do anything if all his satellites nuclear orbital strikes have been blown to shit

There is absolutely no indication that all the Warsats have been destroyed.

Did you pay attention to the ghost's dialogue in the beta? It was a torrent of quips and what I'm told is a streamer meme. And the ghost will make up the majority of the dialogue in the final game.
Could there be a more serious story hidden somewhere that we haven't seen yet? I suppose. I just don't think it's very likely, and even if there is, the juxtaposition would be awkward and uncomfortable.
>>
>>388335332
>There is absolutely no indication that all the Warsats have been destroyed.

Pretty much the first line in the reveal cinematic is about how every satellite is unresponsive.
>>
>>388335332

>The plan was simply to blow up the dreadnoughts core. That's not an example of power.

Your ghost specifically tells you that the amount of explosives the Cabal planted was enough to take out the whole system. I don't disagree that it was a terrible strategy (given that it wouldn't have even killed Oryx; just sent him back to his throne realm) but it's definitely an example of the Cabal's power.

>There is absolutely no indication that all the Warsats have been destroyed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaAgKqTOCY4

The game's opening cutscene has Ikora discover that all the satellites have been destroyed.
>>
>>388335332
Rasputin doesn't have his protect humans initiative active so he actually doesn't have to help us if he doesn't want to. But he seems to have had our back one way or another so far so he could have seen that we'd bounce back somehow and the cabal invading is good for us in the long run
I really wish we could have destiny lore threads, /vg/ is such shit when it comes to lore
>>
>>388335826
>>Your ghost specifically tells you that the amount of explosives the Cabal planted was enough to take out the whole system

No, dude. It was enough explosives to blow up the dreadnaughts core, which would then blow up and take out "most" of the solar system.

The fucking dreadnaught had a planet folded up inside it. It's probably a thousand times more powerful than anything the Cabal can come up with.

>The game's opening cutscene has Ikora discover that all the satellites have been destroyed.

Dude, watch it again.

The City's defense satellites are NOT the Warsat system. Why would they be expecting feeds from a system that Rasputin is outright not letting them have access to?
>>
>>388336156
>Rasputin doesn't have his protect humans initiative active

Rasputin shutting down when the darkness initially hit may have been BECAUSE of his "no kill initiative". It's kind fan Isaac Asimov's I Robot situation. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. When the darkness invaded the solar system, Rasputin ran thousands of simulations. Every single one of them resulted in the complete extinction of humanity. In that scenario the most logical thing is to do nothing.
>>
>>388336546
>In that scenario the most logical thing is to do nothing

A popular theory is that Rasputin was the one that wounded the Traveler (preventing it from leaving), which forces it to start creating Guardians.

The core exploding is what would wipe out most of the system. Two salty space rhinos aren't lugging around solar system cracking explosives you mongoloid.

>Broken space hobos that used to have light and were tore apart by the darkness
>Skynet if skynet was trying to fuck with space-time so much that itself became a universal constant
>Dusty bone-bug things that believe in super-darwinism so hard that super-darwinism gives them magic powers
>Generic space empire of militant rhinos
One of these is boring as fuck.

Oryx was the worst part of Kingsfall raid desu. Vault of Glass was perfect balance of managing tasks and shooting, Crota was too easy, Kingsfall makes you feel like a clown balancing 5 plates, and I never touched rise of iron but I heard you could just push the raid boss off the platform

I'll buy Destiny 2 because I'm trapped on that treadmill but I'm really disappointed about what the game is and what it could have been

We could of have spaceship battles

We could of had zero-g crucible maps

We could of had customizable spaces for our Guardians

We could of had 60 FPS

What I don't understand is how Guardians, not exactly the strongest or purest form of light (since we're corruptible) were, lore wise, able to kill Oryx in our realm and his throne realm when both the Traveler itself and the leviathan lost when battling Oryx. Are humans just the mary sue of all alien species the Traveler's come across?

Because Guardians don't follow the Sword Logic

>Where are you going? No, wait, listen.

>I was right, at first. In the ever-expanding Blighted-place, even Light must obey the sword-logic. Even you Guardians, you best and brightest of the dying dawn, you drew blood in honor of the Taken King. The Warpriest did his duty, and you did yours. Oryx was challenged, yes, but challenged in the way of the Hive, which is to say that challenge is worship — is challenge — is power. Sword-logic. You played your part well.

>You were not supposed to touch the Light.

>How did you find your way into the King's Cellars? How did you even recognize that benighted draught for what it was? Do you not know that the Hive pursue Light precisely for the purpose of devouring it with slavering jaws and slick greedy gulping throats? How did you take (or rather, un-Take) the Blighted Light that Oryx gathered to offer in sacrifice to Akka, and ignite it so that it burned and burned the Darkness?

It was barely Light anymore. But you took it. And when you took it, you did not keep it. You set it free.

>You fools! You disastrous, bumbling squanderers! It's not right! Who now shall be First Navigator, Lord of Shapes, harrowed god, Taken King? Not you! You might have been Kings and Queens of the Deep! But you have toppled Oryx and you have not replaced him!

>There must be a strongest one. It is the architecture of these spaces.

>Why are you leaving?

We defeated Oryx but we didn't take his place. We don't predicate our existence on the destruction of others.

I fucking loved that cinematic, getting to see so many moments talked about d1 like twilight gap and the forming of the city was great. Probably my favorite of the entire franchise.

I love it when a game has an in universe explanation for respawning.

And the music is still suprisingly good even after they fired Marty.

I'm pumped.
