The music is pretty genius, there is a lot of musical refernces to classic Doom ost. It isn't really made to be listened standalone, it's not made to be a pleasing listening, it's part of the whole game and it's progression, it's so dynamic it becomes part of the background with the game more than just music you could easly repace by listening some metal CD instead.

...so? They were "recreated", altered and adopted by the games' composer(s) themselves, making them new items altogether, and tasteful homages.

It's practically the same as bitching about Solid Snake being a literal Snake / Plissken from Escape from NY.

>>
I don't like the soundtrack that much, but i like what it does for the game, it wouldn't be the same if you did all the demon smashing in a slow part of a song, even if it was a great song, it wouldn't have the same effect, most doom 2016 music is meant to enhace the action, not the ambience.

This doesn't mean there aren't good tracks to listen on their own, like BFG division, but again, it's mostly because i relate it to that particular part of the game.

There's a line that crosses homages and goes full into ripoff territory, this coming from someone that defends sampling to death.
As for your example. sure Snake is clearly a Plissken copy at first but he differentiates himself through his actions and beliefs, which makes him an entirely new character.
Remaking a song without any differences doesn't do that, it's just a slightly altered version.
If it was a remix/cover or at least did enough to separate itself (even while sampling) then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

It is an overrated meme game that latched on to the nostalgia bandwagon and through extremely clever marketing convinced people that it was a mostly true to the originals modern version of classic games.

A game that truly was similar to the originals was Sonic Mania. Not D44M. D44M is a bastardized garbage console game that merely pretends as if it is like old school gaming.

Doom 3 is unironically better than this game.

dead wrong, Industrial metal has a very distinctive and recognizable riffing style, specific vocal delivery styles, a coherent thematic and aesthetic identity. It's a cultural movement with traditions and motifs, not just a vague abstract definition.

>noise, and modern drone spawned from industrial

no, there were several genres in contemporary classical music (for lack of a better term) that influenced it far before industrial

I don't know what you mean by "modern drone" but proto-drone has been around in avantgarde circles for like 80 years, and drone proper definitely existed in the 60s even if it was by some other name

and it's the same with noise really, plus there are forms of noise that ignore the industrial side of the genre almost entirely and instead descend from the VU - No Wave - SY lineage

The only parts that stick out are those you're calling "martial industrial" and they don't sound like martial industrial. At best they sound like the non-industrial parts of a martial industrial album (like the slowest bits of Grand Desired Utopia by Sect) but that's it. You'd have a lot more luck trying to convince me that the music of the latest Avengers trailer is martial industrial.

Pretty sure the praise for the sound track is more that it is dynamic and changes based on weapon, intensity of action, enemy number, and enemy type. It makes you feel like a badass motherfucker at just the right time.

Holy shit you have fucking shit taste. I bet you like "realism" in your games as well while obliviously playing boring shit like zombie "survival" games.

Also there is a lot of generic synthwave because it started to become a fad recently but Dance with the Dead is fucking great and you should kill yourself if you don't like them

I really liked his killer instinct stuff, shame he went with such a shitty generic style for DOOM, although that might be what they asked of him.

LOL none of you have any taste in music. I bet you guys think music with lyrics is good. Half of you probably even like rap
>>
>>388318949
I hate rap and generally dislike music that use lyrics since it's often used as a crutch for bad composition. You seem to feel quite strongly about this though, I hope that means you have good enough taste to back it up and aren't just a loud opinionated faggot. Go on, share what you think is good with us.

If you don't like or at least appreciate the Doom 2016 soundtrack you're either:
>A pleb with no taste,
or
>A contrarian
Simple as that.
>>
It's almost as if people have different tastes in music.

It's almost as if the music is made for the game and may not work outside of being background for gameplay. Again, it's pretty subjective.

It's almost as if when something gets praised, some people will dislike it just because others say it's good.

I know you're baiting but I genuinely think you cannot objectively judge music unless you're talking about the technical aspects I guess. Maybe that's why to Doom OST is so widely praised.

This is why I fucking hate games in an established franchise not using a subtitle or number. It's fucking impossible to find the original and the new one.

>>
>>388310289
I didn't really like the OST either. People say that it's supposed to be very dynamic so you could feel great in the moment, but I can't agree. When I think about the effect dynamism has on a soundtrack, I remember games like SotC where those moments create these deep impressions into my memory. Instead the soundtrack in Doom4 comes out to be pretty unmemorable as most people have pointed out. I can remember feeling good about the gameplay and being impressed by the tech and skill that went into everything at least.

The music for nudoom is one of the things I hate most about it besides the shitty gameplay and mechanics, shitty dubstep sound crap when everyone is expecting rock/metal. They even changed the main theme do fucking shitty wub wub version. The fuck is this crap.

Then the retarded 16ers who never touched doom before praise it so they can say they played a game in the series because it's all they got.

He basically invented a new instrument solely for this game and even thought the guitars weren't nasty enough for TOOT so all the guitars are half guitar and half the sound of the doom 2 chainsaw interpolated with it.

If he didn't come up with that weird instrument you wouldn't have bits like the BFG division with the melody part that sounds like a demon screeching.

You haven't actually played through the game and based everything on random hallway ambiances and tension filler. Don't bother downloading the soundtrack and basing it on that either because people will know. He specifically said in the GDC post mortem that he didn't just port the game music over to a CD.

I didn't mind the music much in the game, but honestly it all kind of blends together. Nothing worth listening to outside of the game, only E1M1 remix was memorable and not due to its own merits.
>>
>>388323871
people defended XCX for that kek

>>388310289

It's edgy and crazy, nice references to the original game's soundtracks too, and the game itself is edgy and crazy, so it fits.

I mean you're literally a man genociding demons you can't get much edgier without getting stupid. It's also obviously not taking itself super seriously which is good. So the music is great for it.
