That's exactly how DS4Windows works. It'll mimic an Xinput controller (360/XB1) so it'll work with literally anything, you'll get Xbox button prompts but it's an easy adjustment. Some games support DS4 natively on Steam now days and even have button prompts for PS controllers, so it's less and less of an issue overall

DS4 probably since you don't need to buy anything extra. I actually use the Wii U pro controller with the may flash adapter which makes it work perfectly with every game that doesn't require analog triggers which has been zero for me so far, plus I only charge it once every 2 months which is fucking awesome. In the end I'd say it probably isn't worth the money if you have the DS4 though. Much easier compatibility without extra investment.

Considering that mouse control is utterly abysmal for Dark Souls, I'd advise against the Steam Controller. In fact based on a plethora of middling reviews I'd advise fully against the controller anyway (note: I understand that some players were satisfied with the controller, but for the pricepoint I believe there are much better controllers, albeit without the mouselike feature.)

Also, friendly reminder to anyone considering purchasing controllers: always get the newest, most updated edition. Ask the seller what edition they're selling if you need to. The Xbone controller was massively improved via updates, and even the 360 controller was massively improved via the "Limited Edition" version that on Amazon costs exactly as much as the old edition.

Anyway OP, I'd just say stick to your favorite controller and just install proper drivers if needed.

Wholeheartedly agreed. Granted their wireless 360 LE was fantastic and cheap, but Microsoft showed their true colors with the original E3 Xbone debacle. I still recommend the wireless 360 LE ($30) as my most recommended PC controller, but I'm certainly hoping another company swoops in and takes that number one spot (Logitech's wireless controller was disappointingly awful in comparison, not sure if they updated it yet or not.) Also all Xbox controller go through adjustments, never buy them early on, always wait for the second version at least.

Also, it's ironic that I'm a "Microsoft shill" yet hate Microsoft. They struck gold in terms of price/accessibility/form when they made the wireless 360 LE. If anyone knows a better controller that has the same high level of compatibility, definitely let me know.
