The PC port was fucking terrible. It had no support for controllers, the way the game was designed to be played.

The 360 version remains flawless and easily the best game in the series.

Playing the first game next to 2, 3, and Andromeda feels like playing a very similar but different series entirely.

Mass Effect 1 and Dragon Age Origins are the 2 most overrated WRPGs ever made.

I remember having to kill benezia three or four times because I kept not saving afterward and flying off to other systems and doing shit and then dying roaming around on some rock looking for that one bronze deposit

I replayed through the whole series recently and I'd say 2 is the worst and 1 is the best. Everything in 2 is done better in either 1 or 3. 2 is stuck between two genres and isn't good at either being a TPS or an RPG.

The linear non-rpg mass effect 2 sold to the normie masses. I enjoyed the first one more, because the story was new and interesting. Mass effect 2 story was not interesting and ultimately pointless. The gunplay was still not good, but I guess slightly better than 1.

The gameplay really wasn't that good in any of them. It just went from a clunky third person shooter to a generic third person shooter. One thing that never changed was how absolutely braindead the AI is though.

I still think ME1 was the best in terms of story and atmosphere, but boy that PC port is shit, which probably doesn't help that poll.

It's a narrative-focused series, that is what should be looked at the most here.

The actual gameplay of me1 was a chore and anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't played it in a while.

Trying to focus on FPS elements and shit was a bit of a mistake desu. ME3 multiplayer was a stroke of luck, and I think andromeda suffered because they just wanted to duplicate it, except better.

I forget the specifics but they had some system where you had to keep track of how many shots you fire before the gun overheated and let it cool, rather than it just being a bar that goes up and down. But people just held the trigger down and got confused when the game penalized them with a long "reload" so they changed it.

In lore it's still technically this way where you can only fire so many times before overheating but it's just not the same.

I think it's just Microsoft owned Bioware at the time and wanted a Bioware RPG for their system and Bioware saw it as a chance to get some funding for Dragon Age which they were working on at the time.

ME1 is overrated by /v/ because of being the first game and having a the best story. ME1 fans tend to shut out any flaws, even if they are the same flaws they'd probably be critical of in any other game. Dragon Age 2 comes to mind.

Swtor was announced in 2007. but Lucas arts approached Bioware to make it in late 2006.

The RPG aspects of ME1 were utter shit. Your character background didn't really matter, your character class/build barely allowed you to do anything outside of combat and hardly even affected how you would experience the game and the idea to tie speechcraft skills to in-game decision in terms of karma-points was one of the most retarded ideas in the world, rewarding the player for playing one-sided characters. In general the BioWare triplet of good/neutral/bad choices was particularly crappy in this game since due to having to voice/animate every line of dialogue. The dialogue system in general was shit since it didn't tell the player precisely what his character was going to say/do, which is a bad design decision in an RPG where the player is supposed to characterise his player character through his choices, often surprising the player when Shepard suddenly starts punching people even though the player did not intend for him to do so. The combat system was tedious and boring, offering little tactical depth and not being particular interesting as a shooter either. The quests were generic and offered little opportunity for the player to make his build matter, and the side-quests were some of the worst designed in the history of RPGs.

By no means ME2 and 3 were better games, but I find it always amusing when people pretend that ME1 was in any way better. Dragon Age: Origin was the last good BioWare game.

I have played the first Mass Effect. It doesn't require any kind of elaborate movement or camera control that you couldn't do without a gamepad. You just aim with a crosshair on your enemies and click on them until they're dead - and that's best done with a mouse.

They are all bad games. Bioware haven't made a good game since KOTOR. Their only genuinely great game is Baldur's Gate 2.
Only Xbox babies who played Mass Effect before they could develop any real standards would hold the Mass Effect series in any high regard. It's a subpar cover shooter, which is already one of the worst modern genres. Its RPG elements are minimal and come down to lawful good vs. chaotic good. The character development system is made for babies. The inventory mechanics are horrid. There are no gameplay mechanics that do not revolve around combat(no sneaking, stealing, dialog skills...) Choices are rarely more than binary, and rarely have any consequences other than cosmetic ones. The story is a bad ripoff of Star Control 3. The writing and characters are barely mediocre. The sidequests feature as much copy-pasted dungeons as Dragon Age 2 did.
This describes all three mainline ME games equally.
There's really not a lot to like about any of the ME games, unless you've played them while young and impressionable. Non-meme nostalgia goggles series.
