It was the opposite for me when playing it on PC. Yakuza 1 ran incredibly well, while Yakuza 2 was finicky on most settings and needed the PAL version to run well at all.

With that said, I am glad Yakuza 2 is getting a remake as well. It has been my favorite so far while playing through the series and has some great moments.

You should be aware that as always, /v/ contrarians want to take the unpopular approach and want you to be as autistic as them.

I played Y1. It's an OK game but the later iterations of Yakuza are objectively better, Y0 is the best Yakuza iteration in the gameplay department and Kiwami is built off Y0.

Kiwami also has extra scenes not in Y1 while it keeps pretty much all of Y1's content intact. The only thing they really changed and received mixed reactions is the remixed soundtracks, which has some both good and bad remixes.
But let's be honest here, that's a pretty damn minor thing in a long ass game like Yakuza and it's not like the songs don't work, they are just different from the original.

That being said, you can also play Y0. Kiwami is built in a way that plays off Y0 and you don't really lose much other than some easter egg references which you'll need Y2 for aswell anyways.

Y2 Kiwami is a ways off still probably, but trust me, two Yakuza games are already more than enough to have your fill for atleast a good couple of months, these are heavy games and completing them 100% is no small feat due to the amount of mini-games in them.

If you decide after Y0 and Y1/Kiwami that you still want to go on, then either play Y2, or try out Ishin with some guides. Or you can just jump straight to 3/4 and use the reminisce feature to see what happened, if you REALLY want to play the rest as soon as possible.

Truth be told the story in 4 is pretty self-contained so the reminisce feature is enough to work with for newcomers, but please play Y0 and Kiwami first atleast.

It's a side game and not part of the main story at all, though the zombies themselves appear as actors in a substory in 5 as Kiryu which I thought was pretty funny. It's just a fanservice game basically (Not the sexual kind, the actual fan kind) and it's quite rough around the edges, but it's fun enough and still the same length as any other Yakuza game going for 100% (80-120ish hours)

I liked 3 quite a bit, but with that said, not very. Yakuza 3 is the beach episode of the series, and can easily be skipped as it doesnt add much to the plot. It's still the only game with Okinawa however so if its worth a look for that, but the pacing is very slow.

The final boss is great and the entire story is pretty hilarious at times (Beautifurr eyes for example), but the characters besides the kids don't leave much of a lasting impression and the kid segments last for at least an hour or two at a time before you get to do what you want again and they do it two or three times during the game. I got a Radeon 5770. There was some minor lag on certain streets but it didn't run bad for the ten hours I played it. You should be more than fine if I remember graphics card progression correctly. Supposedly the PAL versions run a bit smoother than the NTSC-U versions but I only played the NTSC-U one.

i'm actually interested now in how they'll rework the textures since they are using the dragon engine. they'll have to completely make a new render for kaoru, ryuji, and all the other big pieces in 2. then again i could care less, i just want to see qt3.14 kaoru again. 3's render did not do her justice, but i guess that was the side effect of the engine (just like lily in 4, her real-life model was way hotter than her in-game render) i hope she has the same VA.
