Slow zombies can be metaphorical for so many things

Like the ever impending mortality of man, you can run and run but eventually you'll get tired and they'll overwhelm you etc.

Fast zombies are just adrenaline pumping action movie cliches. No time to be afraid because you're too busy running and shooting like its a michael bay flick.

Slow zombies make a game fun by adding an ever present level of danger and essentially a toy to fuck around with ala Dead Rising

Fast zombies are just cannon fodder to instantly shoot down ala L4D

May as well replace them with any kind of fast melee enemy like goblins or some shit

Slow zombies are cooler, but fast zombies can still be scary in their own right considering you're more or less fucked when an outbreak occurs.

Genuine question about zombies though, wouldn't they rot after a while? I would assume after a winter they wouldn't be much of an issue.

I want a game about making skeletons interesting again.

Instead of just zombies, I want skeletons. Then over time rearrange the parts for different enemy variety and then give them more parts as they're getting stronger. Bosses basically being bone golems and stuff. That'd be rad.

Running zombies can be incredibly good if they're rare and mixed with slow moving zombies and the right environment.

See REmake.
Leave a defeated zombie on the ground for too long and it revives as a running zombie.
The addition of this in the remake made the game a million times better in what they were trying to achieve.

Slow is the best when actually handled correctly. They should barely be a threat in small numbers, they'll only kill someone by surrounding them in huge groups that can't be killed quickly enough.

Slow zombies if cleverly placed, so combating them becomes more of a puzzle than action.
Fast zombies have their perks i suppose, in wide open spaces since slow z's become nonthreatening.
Completely depends on the game but in an ideal scenario gameplaywise i would prefer slow zombies with variations and fast being one of them.

Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z books are perfect slow zombies and why they are terrifying.

Depends on lore. Romero zombies stop functioning after about 10 years when rot finally hits the brain stem. 28 Days later zombies died in a few months from starvation (but somehow not of dehydration?) but they technically aren't actually dead.
