>>388256614
You can still build a decent rig for $550. You could probably pick up a used rig for the same price that performs better, as well, plenty of people out of the know willing to sell components or systems without gouging you. On top of that the high end GPUs haven't been affected by the mining craze, and frankly with the extra $100 that the 1080 commands it's well worth it against the 1070, Nvidia deliberately cannibalized 1070 sales with their price cut on the Ti release.

RAM is more expensive than usual and will likely remain that way for years to come, once new foundries are built to manufacture NAND there is no reason for the mfgs to reduce price more than $15 as it's become evident that consumers are willing to pay the $30+ for the same product. And let's face it $30 isn't anything to cry over when you're dumping $500-1500 on a purchase anyways.

CPUs really aren't any more expensive than they've ever been and with Ryzen there are a lot of higher end parts available for a smaller cost than ever, depending on your use case. Without prices for 8th gen it's hard to speculate on Intel's new line and price efficacy but I imagine it'll be competitive. Unfortunately there will be a new chipset released alongside them, as well as a 'new' socket.

And honestly right now is a bad time to buy anything if you're forward thinking about your computer, the new DDR5 standard has dropped and will likely be integrated into chipsets by mid to late 2018 which means a new physical standard. Intel will be pushing 10nm next year too, Ryzen 1/2 ("14+"/7nm) will be dropping some time and Volta GPUs will likely be releasing mid 2018, I don't know that RTG will be doing any releases nor am I comfortable speculating.
>>
>>388258038
R9 range is fantastic for the price, honestly. I'm still using an i5 2500k/Sapphire R9 290X and I'm able to get 4k/60FPS in most last generation games. Replayed Dead Space and Resi 5 at 4k and they look fantastic

What I don't understand is why video cards have to have those ridiculously overdesigned alienware-tier 3cool5you cases and fans on them.

Like, some of the cost of the card is paying the stupid-ass advertisers and designers that did that, instead of making the card more powerful and, y'know, better.

>mfw i got my 1080 during the price drop after the 1080 announcement.
ive considered selling it since it really is overkill for what i need. i might use that cash it get an m.2 ssd which im sure i'd get more milage out of. never had an ssd beforeits served me well the past 6 or so months. gta 4 at 4k fixes all the jaggies and reading bill boards from miles away with view distance cranked up is so nice. people can hate pc gaming all they fucking want, but its the best way to play old games. no remaster needed

my only concern is that im a dumbass who put a mini itx motherboard in a full size case and im concerned the 1080 is so heavy it might fucking up the motherboard. ive been considering this case since its tiny and would have the moboard facing up http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mini-itx-elite-series/elite130/

>>
>>388256614
Give it time.
If the crypto meme dies down, cards will tank in price.
If it doesn't, they'll up manufacturing to meet demands and offset this new market.
Best case scenario is that they make much more stock to accommodate this market and then it crashes, driving card prices into the shitter.

There's lots of videos on jewtube about it. But I'll break it down in terms I understand.

Chink makes a pool of free coins, 21 million roughly. To earn the coins your computer has to do a bunch of calculations that act as encryption for when people spend the coins as a means of security. Rinse and repeat til all the coins are gone. Bitcoin will hit the transaction limit of 21 million sometime around 202X. But someone will probably just add more coins to keep it going.

Each Crypto currency uses a different means of doing the encryption. That's why Etherium is really good at using GPUs.

That's the basic basic newfag version. Now I"m off before someone tries to correct me.
>>
>>388274024
I understand bitcoin because its a digital currency. What the fuck is this etherium shit and why do you need high end gpus for it?
>>
>>388274134
it's another flavour of bitcoin.
>>
>>388274295
Then I guess I dont understand those either now. How the fuck do you just make up a digital currency, tell people its worth something, have people believe it, but they have to 'unlock' it? I legit 100% want to understand.

The same way you can say a diamond, gold or other jewels are worth something, because it takes effort to make a bitcoin. The math required to solve the equation behind a bitcoin takes time and computer effort(electricity).

What's bullshit is you trying to be some ACHTUALLY shithuffer trying to make it seem like the value of gemstones is anything but vanity.

Industrial diamonds and semi-conductors of gold aren't driving the prices of shit.

Level with me /v/, should I be looking to upgrade my R9 290/i5 3570k build soon? I want to upgrade to a 4K screen soon since the content is finally getting there, I'm guessing I should wait and see where things are at in mid-2018?

I'm going to a wedding next April, and I know for a fact there's a Microcenter nearby. I'm thinking of saving up and buying my parts during the week I'm there. Thoughts?
