Attacking him normally clearly doesn't work so you should think to attack him when he's in ball form since it's the only other thing to do. You would've done a similar thing with Heavy Shinobi only 2 boss fights ago.

The barrel was a problem because you barely use the up and down buttons in the entire game unless you're charging your spindash, so you really never had a clue of what to do with it.

You can beat this boss by using the same tools you used during the entire game, now get good or fuck off
