Its worse for the game if you make a multiplayer game Early Access since you need a constant playerbase to make it work and breaking the momentum of the game that by the time it actually fully made it is old news and most of the players mover on since the game didnt had much staying power before since it lacked content (ser the "new" Unreal).

Some games can manage holding the playerbase but its a much riskier move and only paysoff if you know what you need in your game to give it longevity.

Legions was two projects in on itself.
Then there was that game which was built on the original Tribes 2 engine after it went free.
I remember there being one more but w/e.

A big problem with them was the fact they adhered religiously to everything from the old Tribes games like the Quake clones do to this day.
Ascend made some changes (and shit up a lot of stuff in the process), but it worked out for them greatly.
If these guys just remake Tribes 2 with less players, I don't see them doing well, either.

There were two servers active when I first logged after the tutorial, both 24 player servers. One was EU the other IL (Illinois?) which for me was a bad sign already, once I got in I was consistently above 100ms. I can't say for sure but I was having difficulty landing shots with the Rail Gun so perhaps the netcode defeats high ping.

Basic movement was relatively easy to pick up, but by no means am I reaching top speed easily, with that said I only have 1.4h thus far so that should be taken with a grain of salt. I'm having trouble directing myself and so I'm at the mercy of the peaks and valleys of the map, pinballing back and forth in the many channels that exist; so getting the sweet, sweet soundbarrier flag grabs is out of my breadth.

I haven't had time to calibrate to the combat and the trailing necessary to be a decent combatant but from what I can tell other players are able to effectively land shots frequently and consistently which leads me to believe that I'm just awful which is to be expected. TTK seems excessive against heavier armor, taking quite some time and a number of shots to take one down.

Thus far I can only say that the population will likely be an issue and until that is resolved there will be a lot of people who have to play with unnecessarily high latencies. The weapons seem balanced but armor may need tweaked in the future, but I don't have a solid reference for how the differences played out in older Tribes games. Movement basics, again easy to grasp but there will be a learning curve.
