Emulating isn't illegal though. Downloading games for free is illegal. If you own the game and make your own rip and use an emulator to up the resolution and mod it is 100% legal.

SoM wasn't that good to begin with. I'm not going to defend this obviously cheap mobile tier remake, but the original isn't exactly a masterpiece.
Everything it sets out to do some other game does better. Graphics are nothing to write home about. Neither is story or characters. Dialog is incredibly basic. Even the combat, while in real time and a hell of a lot more exciting than the typical turn-based shit of contemporary JRPGs, lacks any kind of flow.
You wait for your weapon to charge up, hit an enemy then you wait for their invincibility frames to wear off before hitting it again. If you do hit it during it's invincibility period, the attack will have no effect, but hitstun will stack and activate after it recovers, making it seem like you missed your initial attack and the enemy got hit by nothing thus resetting its recovery. It makes for this really awkward paced combat where you can not team up on enemies as a group, but have to wait out each others attacks.
Magic is horribly overpowered and annoying. The game pauses every time an enemy uses magic, which is unavoidable and frustrating and you have to pause to use magic yourself. Every single time. This could have easily be remedied by letting you assign one spell to each shoulder button.
They honestly should have just copied A Link to the Past and added experience points, like they did with the first game.

I've always prefered Secret of Evermore, and its remake Secret of Evermore would have so much potential with a few fixes for the alchemy. But it will never happen.

Meanwhile Secret of Mana which is terrible balance wise and terribly shallow gameplay wise is "the best game ever" just because you could play with two other people.

SoM was a half baked game with over half of its content taken out before it was released om the Super Nintendo. It was originally intended for the CD SNES but after that went nowhere they had to compromise and cut out large chunks of its content. And it goes to show, ever wonder why the Luna Temple lacked a fucking temple? Ever wonder why the game started to shit weapon upgrades at you at a rapid rate after you obtain the dragon? On top of the horrid and obnoxious magic system.

Ive maybe played this game 7 times throughout my life (last time was 2007 via emu), but fuck that shit if they think id pay $40 for a god damn 3d remake. UNLESS they readd all the content cut from the original game then ill pass.
