Man I read the impressions at Neogaf and they were throwing a shitfit about the combat. Watching the video, I think it comes off as very promising. I love how you can combo arts off of auto attacks, and I love that you have to sacrifice your positioning if you want healing. The elemental arts also look complex which I love. I guess my only worry with it is that it's clearly a combat system that starts out slow and narrow, then gradually opens up to a vast amount of options. That's great and all but it could be a bit tiring when you just want to grind out some smaller enemies.

Otherwise, I've never had any complaints about the character design, the world looks amazing as usual, and the combat looks promising. I'm hyped as fuck for this game. Hope the framerate issues get fixed, but another 3 or 4 months of dev time should be enough to iron that out. If it needs to be delayed to early 2018 so be it.

I'm liking the combat system less and less. From what we've seen, there really is now advantage to repositioning yourself if you don't have an art based on positioning. This means that you're going to be doing very little while you just sit there and auto attack. No flipping through arts, no moving to try and get the highground, no weapon switching between melee/ranged, etc.

Looks much more casual than the previous Xenoblade games. But at least the visuals look nice.

That's the primary reason I enjoyed the first 2 games. The combat was great. Tons of build variety, battles were relatively quick and painless, you had loads to do when building up your CDs, etc.

There were a handful of people shitposting every XC thread, and with XCX it only got worse because we had FFXV-kun comparing both games every thread.

There are various ways of getting around Ether resistance/immunity in the original. Monado Purge, topples, etc. Even then, you have to deal with spikes.

In X, there were already 6 elements, enemies that could raise their resistance levels or lower yours, and several arts and weapons that were elemental. So it's nothing new. On top of that, there was overdrive, secondary/tertiary cooldowns, repositioning and attacking, switching between melee/ranged, several classes that you could switch between at will, AND skells, which have their own unique traits.

I know many people complained about X being too complicated, which is why they casualized 2, but that doesn't make it any better. X's combat system was damn near perfect already. Could've done with a bit of tweaking, but there was no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The combat system being so good is what got me through the doldrums of the original and X. The games slow down, inevitably, during the mid game. If the combat isn't good, I end up just avoiding combat altogether. In X, it was fun to go out and just art-dump a crocodile for some teeth. Battles were painless and could be over in 10 - 15 seconds. Less if I was using a skell.

My main gripe about the original 2 games is that bosses actually weren't hard enough. You never really needed to prepare if you were appropriately leveled. Doing the quests when and where you got them would always leave you more than strong enough to plow through the boss.

Even in X, where the first boss has 85% electrical resistance, you could just plow through her, even if you went with the electrical based class. Well, that is unless you had no other attacking arts and Lin/Elma were underleveled.

That's not what I'm talking about, idiot, I'm talking about you having a full palette of 8 arts. In the demo, they showed an art already hitting its 2nd CD at the start of the battle. In Chronicles/X, you started with a full set of 8 and built up from there.

On top of that, both games also had a 9th 'art' that was a "special skill". In X, that amounted to being the Overdrive activation, which would drain you of 3k tension, but greatly increase your auto attack speed, your movement speed, the recharge on your arts, and the damage you dealt, while also giving you various benefits for racking up points on the counter and using arts in certain orders. IE, Green -> Blue would increase the duration of the Overdrive by 0.5x the counter, meaning you could activate unlimited Overdrive.

In X, you build up to Overdrive. In 2, you build up to access the rest of your arts.

Upgrading arts has been in prior Xenoblade games. Both of them. This is nothing new. You have to be willfully ignorant to not understand my point, which is why you're on the verge of shitposting. Oh, and they also say that they no longer have to pay attention to the arts, and can "just pay attention to the battle all the time." That PROVES that the game is far more dumbed down than the previous games. XCX is generally only liked by the U-cult, and the small group of people that enjoyed Gear/Saga for their stories. Not really. XCX completely tosses aside chain attacks in favor of the overdrive system that is far more based on personal combos rather than syncing up with your party. It's a fun system, but it tosses out a lot of the things that I loved about XC. Such as positioning no longer being as vital.

XC2 seems to be much more similar to XC both in terms of combat pace, squad reliance, and mechanics while taking the class mutability of XCX and porting it directly into combat via Blades.

The files were in the WiiU as well. Just because it's a different system and storage, doesn't change anything. Don't forget the audio files for BotW are a piddling amount compared for something like Xenoblade so even if you had 20 different languages, it wouldn't amount to half data needed for Xenoblade's audio files.

This is why the odds of getting duel audio is slim. If they have extra room to add it, nice. If not, they're not going to use a cartage with more memory to accommodate all the extra audio files or waste resources to let people download it from their servers.
