I want the game to happen, but something tells me the project fell apart and they looking for ways to soften the blow when they tell the news. (which most of the time is just ignoring the IP until people forget about it, like Valve did with Half-Life.)

Yeah okay. They just got done with their biggest project yet, and are now working on something even more ambitious. Keep in mind that ten years ago they were a few dudes modding NWN to be about some slavic fantasy novel. Now there's 500 people working on a single game. It'll take time, this is a huge project. Sure, but the major difference was that only after releasing TW3 CDPR became a big name. And GoG is also more popular now than it has ever been and is most likely only rising. Not to mention they probably get butt loads of $$$ from Gwent which in turn means that they won't ever NEED to release another AAA game ever again. TW3 set them for life.

Think about it, CDPR's situation is very similar to Valve's. Both have big stores, both have games where they get a lot of "easy" revenue (Gwent and Valve has Dota + CSGO)

It just doesn't make sense business wise to make expensive AAA games that take a lot of time to complete when you can just easily make bank with the storefront and Gwent which requires significantly less effort than full fledged games.

actually according to newsposts from cdproject red. its actually fairly far into development. the reason they dont want to say more now has to do with hype. needlessly creating hype and marketing before long before the game is gonna come out is probably a detriment to the game overall. they want to keep it mostly on the downlow until tis actually shortly before realse where theyll let the marketing machine run loose.
my guess is mid to late 2018 its gonan be the release date. you gotta keep in mind the develpment team is much bigger than the one used for wichter 3. roughly 500 people are working on cyberpunk. compared to the around 200 which worked on witcher.
