Last game I fully enjoyed was Sonic Unleashed. I played like 2 hours of Sonic Colors, got to the Wisp Planet level I think but just lost interest in the bland level design. Got up to City Escape in Sonic Generations but never finished, again it didn't really appeal to me.

Is Mania worth getting? Forces looks a lot like Colors so I don't care for it. I miss being able to enjoy new Sonic games.

Just...a game that focusses on refining and polishing ONE playstyle. No 2d sections, no platforming, no Wispons, no nothing. Mania can just become a New Super Sonic Bros. series and it'd be great, just let the 3D games be their own thing.

That's great. I just haven't really followed Sonic this much this generation. It seems like Sega actively tried to kill him by doing deals with Nintendo and making all the console games just 2D with simple level designs. No variety of gameplays and cinematic stories like Adventure, no dizzying twists and loops like Heroes, no ambition like 06, no ambition + speed and world building like Unleashed. I wish each game felt different again but they all follow the Boost template now. Does Mania run good on all systems? I have an Xbox One and PS4 but prefer to play on Xbox for achievements and controller.

That's the Sonic I grew up with. Sonic Adventure on Gamecube, Sonic Heroes and Mega Collection on Xbox, Sonic Advance and Rush on DS. Some of us liked the bigger cast of characters and gameplay choices man.

Yeah, you had to complete town missions to unlock them. Some were just "complete all these missions" while others were complete all these missions at S rank.

To get Blaze for example you had to complete all Soleanna mystery missions, and for Omega all the GUN Commander missions with an S rank.

Surprised how they managed to add that nifty little postgame on what's considered to be one of the worst Sonic games ever (it's pretty underrated though IMHO)

The most frustrating thing is that if you try to criticize this game in a lot of Sonic threads, you'll just get given the "s-s-shut up classicfag!" defense. I like Classic, Adventure and Boost, but it's not hard to see that this isn't doing any of those styles any favors. I expect this game to be okay, like a 6.5/10 going by typical game reviewer scores. It won't come close to mania though. Literally the very next level was one of the best in the game and started expanding the possibilities of the engine with dozens of shortcuts and speedrunning tricks to make every run enjoyable. City Escape was a huge letdown, but Seaside Hill > Rooftop Run had all the best aspects of boost gameplay that they then promptly ditched while designing Forces.

I think the thing that really turned me off from Forces was the OC. I at least picked up other 3D Sonic games to give them a try but I have absolutely no interest in Forces.
