Why is nostalgia so prevalent in music culture? Music is a medium where you have objective improvement, yet people still hold onto old albums so much. Why is Beggar's Banquet on all the top 100 album lists, when A Bigger Bang has better performance, production and sound quality? Might be a bad example but you get the point.

As tech advances and the development teams to make each game gets larger and less manageable fine tuning and craftmanship is lost. Older games from talented dev teams have certain things over both modern medium-large budget games but with a scale/scope of production that indie games would struggle to replicate either.

actually the difference is that companies have convinced the vast majority of gamers, including yourself, to ignore the artistic integrity of the medium so that they can continue consuming whatever trash they produce. even most casual movie goers understand that the the latest marvel flick isn't high cinema but gamers just love corporate dick too much to care. and it doesn't help that almost all games journalists engage in dick sucking as well, which makes them closer to marketers or fanboys than actual critics.

The old graphics leave certain things to imagination. It's almost like the difference between reading book, and watching its film adaptation. Neither is objectively better.

Not really. Some will say the later gens made he gameplay over convoluted, and I'm inclined to agree. Same reason why old Castlevania is better.

8 bit soundfont is limited, but it forced composers to be more creative with them, and rely a lot more of musical fundamentals. Just compare GSC music with HGSS.

Why would you compare games from different generations? By that logic why enjoy anything classic? Why drive a 67 mustang or listen to The Beatles? When considering quality an individual should try to understand the context of when an item was produced.
