Xbox Ambassador here. I'm basically the first layer that reports, troubleshooting and other things go through.

We have a multi layered system in place to check and double check claims of cheating. Then it's reviewed by enforcement team before the ban pushed forward and enforced.

You cannot simply be accused of cheating and be banned on the claim alone. What, do you think we're Blizzard? We don't give a damn if you say 'gg ez' at the end of a match and 6 people report you for hacking and an automated system bends you over. Nah!

You can get several suspensions before you even get banned unless you're outright found showing your dick to underage people over the Kinect camera, you're never going to get banned for a single infraction.

A communications ban is usually enforced when there are multiple reports. You're com banned to prevent you from being a menace while the enforcement teams decides the severity of your infraction. I honestly can't say why you were put on a com ban twice before getting an MP ban, sounds like a human error while they were processing your case.

What I can say is that they found significant disruption from you to give you an MP ban after the enforcement team reviewed your case.

The same happened to me after some French faggot started team killing my friend in halo and insulting him in voice chat so I sent him a message telling him to fuck off and he was apparently part of the moderation team and i got banned on the spot. Like the notification came up that I've received a suspicion literally 30 seconds after I sent that message. I got banned for some other offence whilst I was already banned as well. I had just signed up to be an ambassador as well the day before and now I can't do anything because of "past behaviour". I can't even use the preview program and it sucks. I love my Xbox but c'mon at least have a time period where all previous offences get wiped after a certain date. I probably got pulled up on some rage message I sent 10 years ago on the 360 when I got banned the 2nd time.

Again, bans are processed through several layers. What happened in your case is that you were reported, found in violation of the terms of use, put on a ban. During that time, your ban may have come under a second review or gone on hiatus because the enforcement team is backed up. People file reports over a lot of crap. Much of it is inane.

Also, if you appeal your ban, your primary ban goes back on a probation period while it's being reviewed again. This is probably why you saw yourself banned twice. It was just someone confirming you were banned for the right reasons and they're extending the ban period.

It doesn't make sense because he didn't have the moderator tag in his GT so even the enforcement team were baffled with my story but I know it's true and my friend witnessed the whole thing with me. That guy must be roommates with some Xbox mod or something.

This will hardly be a satisfying answer but if a moderator was involved and they were also found in violation, they probably got punished themselves. That review process varies depending on the type of moderator they are but they are held to much higher standards. Since I'm an ambassador, I'm held to a certain standard as well. Xbox is surprisingly strict with it's community staff, of course, that varies depending on the manager but the expectation is supposed to be strict.

Also, never harass people through messages. Unlike in-game chat, Microsoft can easily dig up exactly what was said and a private message report is very easy to review. That's why it was so quick.

You can thank scammers and WLM integration for that fast review process. People were trying to scam, advertise and such on Xbox a few years back and it was made a priority to review private messages over broad communications bans.

Name bans used to be reviewed by ambassadors. Someone reports your gamertag, ambassadors would go through lists of potential names. I can say right now, both of those names violate ToS but some slip through the cracks because they're not reported or the ambassadors voting don't get the violation. Had a simlar thing where I was playing with a online friends for a couple matches one night on BF1, doing really well as a little squad. Come the next map and they told me and another to jump on the other team and take the planes to go kill farming. And since we were all in a party we'd agree not to shoot each other and just farm for the entire match. I'm pretty much told them thats been plain mean, you don't do shit like that at all. They ended up saying fuck it then just take one of their tank slots and use it for the AA to defend them from the ground. My actual face during this entire shitshow. And I'd been playing with these guys for a while as well.
