easily one of the creepiest games i've played, and it's free. enemies move in bizarre ways, spawn locations are changed every time you die/reload game, and the subject matter is pretty gritty.

definitely get this if you havent already

Do I just not understand Yume Nikki? I've tried tried playing it a few times and each time it was mostly just slowly wandering around large empty kind of psychedelic rooms with maybe 1 or 2 things to interact with in them, I found the game to be so boring that I just resorted to watching videos of stuff actually happening in it, and I thought it was mildly interesting but nothing in it was outright spooky. I don't know, maybe I just have an incredibly short attention span, but I can't help but feel the game could have been designed so you are likely to actually find stuff without spending hours plodding around and getting bored. It was more "odd" than anything else, I mean, it's like saying going to a modern art museum is "spooky" except Yume Nikki is at least slightly interesting.

I don't play with any mods except for Complete, the Atmosfear mods, and an FOV changer. Misery is also a great mod for CoP, which is also the best one in the series (in my opinion).

Alien Isolation is great, especially if you love the first few Alien films.

Really high level of polish, metroidvania approach to design. For the most part, it relies on unpredictable AI to scare you. Aliens and robots patroling while you try to stealth your way around.
