I try to force myself to like it, but it's worse than WoW in regards to how much of a themepark it is, and that's saying something.

In WoW, casting is on demand and has little to no delays. The whole "weaving actions" things you guys like to flaunt about doesn't exist in FF14. In WoW, they have it by the nature of it having superior action parsing. FF14 can have this too, but Square purposefully gimped their system. Thank console cross platform for that.

Level 70. The game is as slow at level 70 as it is at level 1. The lowest gcd you get when you under some classes' 15 second buffs is down to 2 seconds, and even that has a small delay of taking advantage of because Square's underlying system is trash. There's a reason why Blizzard didn't crossplatform Diablo or Overwatch. Not only would the latency be an issue, but PC gamers have a huge advantage over console players. Instead of making two separate games tailored for each platform, Square just gave priority to the console crowd, then handed off the game to the PC crowd.

Because the vast majority are cleared in less than 1-2 hours each? Garrosh's raid, everything up until Thok was cleared in 1 day. Only the Siegecrafter, Paragons, and Garrosh himself took any amount of time. Every tier is something similar. A string of 1 hour or below clears into 1 actually hard boss, another string of <1 hour clears into the last 1-2 bosses.

Omega Savage was cleared in a day, many many groups killed O4S in a fucking day and are already in weekly clear boredom. And you make it sound like a few minor roadblocks along the way are a bad thing? We already got shit like O1S and O2S, so what is one or 2 more to give us more actual fights to do? And note that our raids are just glorified primals, there's no difference whatsoever between, say, Susano Ex and O1S. (Remember when Ravana Ex was actually hard?) We literally teleport to boss fights now, we didn't get to explore Alexander ourselves (because no fun allowed) but at least story wise we were, we can't even say that anymore.

It's not a good game. MMOs are intrinsically on a lower level because their artistic integrity is compromised by a sustained profit motive that standalone experiences don't suffer from to the same degree.

Though it may be rare, the possibility to take a real risk on a standalone experience is financially tenable for well-established corporations and indie devs.

You cannot take risks on MMOs. It simply is not done. Name an MMO that took a real risk and I'll show you a game that died young, probably set the company back millions if it didn't completely sink them.

The cruel irony is that today what constitutes taking a risk in MMO design is simply reverting back to old hardcore MMO design (which I think was inherently superior, albeit still flawed).

FF14 is good as MMOs go in the sense that it offers a sufficiently easy and accessible experience for people who suck at MMOs to get that high-level raider feel with none of the autism and effort while still leaving some room for the spergs among us. As a story it is all over the place and completely skippable, the combat is the same recycled holy-trinity combat, and the biggest crime of all was that they made an actually somewhat interesting strategic risk-reward based crafting system and yet everything you craft is inherently inferior to raid drops and is only useful if you're a basement dweller who needs to be on the bleeding edge of progression.

tl;dr: I don't even play FF games, but if FF14 represents the pinnacle of FF games, then it speaks really poorly of the series.

MCH is already good. As of now, any combination of tanks works for speedruns with PLD being the only role closest to a shoein pick, the balance for them is razor thin with each setup having its own pros and cons. Similar to WHM/AST, we may see the situation where you pick based on which is optimal for that turn. AST is better in 1/2 because of how short the fights are with the double aoe balance pull, WHM will probably be better in 3/4.

There are still a couple problems with BLM, but they're pretty nice to play right now.

XIII is a game where the story got written, but the game wasn't long enough to support it. So they had to pad it out with shitty writing. The gameplay's good, the visual's are good, and the idea of what they wanted is stellar. It's failed because PS3 was a dumb machine.

XI and XIV are not nearly as thoughtful, well made, or artistic.
