Sonic 1 > Vanilla Sonic 3

Regardless, Sonic 1 is the least immediately gratifying, but does the best job of teaching the mechanics of the game and testing the player. You can brute force a fuckload of Sonic 2, CD and Knuckles are extremely forgiving, and 3 is all about "gotcha" moments based on what you learn from 2. 1 DEMANDS that you utilize your roll effectively and probably puts the most emphasis on making you think about the advantages and disadvantages of curled and unfurled Sonic.

Also Labyrinth is fun and the people who hate it are shitters, Marble and Spring Yard are the worst zones of 1.
