Historical fav is Atilla. Best gameplay in the series-- outside of Warhammer, with all of its great faction diversity. Which makes Warhammer on par with Atilla, imo

Attila is dog shit, Age of Charlemagne makes it playable but the combat entirely revolves around keeping your cav til the end and just running everyone else over and shitty arcady use of micromanaging formations instead of clever placement and deployment of troops.

Warhammer is best, because factions are radically different when it comes to army compositions and unit stats and you can play the same factions in different ways with different army compositions. You do not NEED to rely on hammer&anvil cavalry+infantry tactics like you do in other TW games, unless you're playing Brettonia. This high variation of viable strategies and army compositions ensures that Warhammer has the best tactical depth in the series when it comes to combat and, honestly, that's all I care about in TW games.

I have a really good PC and can play all the new Total War games at the best settings with all sorts of epic mods, but I always go back to Rome 1.

The new games just aren't fun to play. All the units stutter and float around. They all move in this weird uncanny valley way, it just doesn't feel right.

Rome 1 also plays so much better. Say what you will about the balance in that game, which is fucked, but units feel responsive and snappy. The audio is also so fucking good. The aesthetic in general is the best in any Total War. Fuck, might play through a Carthage campaign tonight, haven't done that in a while.

This and the expansions were all dope as fuck. The units actually survived more than 2 seconds too. I hate how fragile the units are in the new ones, not to mention they don't even try to hide the fact that the AI cheats anymore. They think it's okay to give Munster 5 full stack armies out of nowhere because it increases the difficulty.
