So how was the first game?

Love Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Dead Space (2/4, 1 and 1 the most respectively), but heard the game caused some heavily-mixed reaction due to the "horror" not being exactly what people expected.

Little worried about how apparently it's some sort of semi open world and how much they keep saying you can always choose to sneak if you want. Worst thing would be if they allowed you to sneak through the entire game if you wanted. It would mean the areas and events would have to be shit. Still pre-ordered because the first one is one of my favorite games.

Fucking terrible. The game has these annoying as fuck black bars at the top and bottom to look more "cinematic" which actually just made it look like a fucking mess. The game isn't scary and is literally a 12 year olds idea of scary, just constant different shit thrown at your face with no explanation or reason. In the first 30 minutes a big monster man chases you with a chainsaw, a ghost girl with razor wire floats around, and you fight zombies in the woods for no reason.

It's just a jumbled mess of scrapped ideas for other horror games thrown into a blender. It's like examining the contents of vomit, just a bunch of stupid shit.

It's not really a horror game, it basically just throws oceans of blood at you. Yes it's a bit creepy at times, and a lot of the aesthetic is dark in nature. But I really liked a lot of the game's art and it's surreal atmosphere, that was it's draw for me. If you're looking for spoop, it ain't really there.

Most fun parts of the first game were parts with multiple paths and multiple ways you could get past the monsters, so I'm not entirely surprised why they decided to promote that aspect more than say shitty turret sections or Crash Bandicoot boulder chases.

Number one problem of the first game was wonky launch with wonky engine so heres hoping Evil Within 2 doesn't launch with multiple graphical bugs, framerate drops and game crashes like the first one did.

I got it cheap and am having way more fun than I thought I would. It's a faster, clunkier and less goofy RE4 which has had enough novel ideas to keep things fresh for the 12 odd hours I've been playing for so far.
