Are there any active FPS multiplayers that don't conform to this "reward the new players" bullshit? I just want a game that's fast paced/gun play based where I get totally fucked at the start because I'm new and bad.
Every hero shooter
>Use abilities, kill anyone no matter their skill. Guns are not used.
Csgo style shooters
>Limited health, slow paced, round based.
Quake, ET, etc

COD, BF, etc
>New game every year, extreme casual catering.
The closest I have found is Dirty Bomb but over time with the new merc releases and gun balances, the game has pulled away from gun play and more towards abilities.
I've hunted around for a while but it seems like every FPS that isn't dead always falls short to cater to new players.

just play toxikk/reflex/quake live (not dead)/ quake champions (actually dead)
define "dead" ?
and tf2 doesnt have any "abilities" neither does TiFa2 (this is how I distinguish team fortress 2 and titanfall 2)

i dont know what you mean by active. I can get duels in CPMA every day with people I've never seen before. I don't know what else you really want.

No, I have spent over 700 hours in that game over the years and with the latest merc releases can safely say it's gone to complete shit now. Less than 10% of my deaths would be to guns and nearly all of those would be shotguns anyway. Stay away.

Not much into shooters but Gmod Zombie Survival is pretty fun. Keeps me coming back to Gmod for months at a time
