If you're talking about mechanical skills than they are about the same. But if you are talking about loadout and what items to buy, there is a big gap between the top and casual.

Most of the time people copy the top player's deck and still get destroyed because they don't buy the item to counter CC, shields or healing

I don't like Overwatch's hero changing when you die meta.

I prefer Paladins because champions stay the same during all the fight, so you have to think about your strategy against them.
The card/items meta also adds some depth, and you have to pick whichever fits the situation better.

I love this game to bits, but they need to unfuck it before people will play it en masse.

It has way too high tech requirements.
Its MMR/Matchmaking are completely fucked.
You spend almost half your time waiting for games to start because of borked game lobbies.
Sanctum Falls is still see-through most of the time.
The grind is pretty insane.
And the game is so fucking buggy in general.

It's not exactly a good thing if you make it OP or shit at the start and then "fix it" for good dev points, I'd rather have less more fleshed out characters with different playstyles than a fuckload of them that I lose count after a while

Speaking as somebody who actively plays and enjoys titanfall 2, I think that paladins' hud is really bad. Why does everything that a hero can do given its own icon along the bottom? I don't need a constant reminder that Viktor can scope in and which button to do it with. When you jump, why do most abilities need to get that red "can't use this now" filter over them? The constant status effect icons are irritating, not to mention that status effects in an fps are fucking stupid. The ult charger is also retarded since its just a number with no other visual indication of charge. There's also nothing saying its a percentage, so when I first picked up the game I had no idea if it was supposed to be charging up or just a long cooldown. The viewmodels are also fucking huge.
While overwatch's gameplay is also shit tier, it has a far better hud. It might just be because there are fewer heroes coming out slower, but identifying abilities is relatively easy while in paladins I never have an idea of what the fuck any of the particle effects mean and if they're friendly or not.

I sucked it up and learned the new characters after having quit for virtually 4-5 months but I didn't enjoy the process at all. I enjoyed the game in Oct/Nov 2016 more, though I hear from pros that the game has gotten a ton of bug fixes and rebalances since that time that makes high-level play more fun and dynamic.
