Differs between arrows (Quarrelers, Crossbowmen, etc) and bullets (Thunderers, Handgunners, etc)

Arrow units have an arc of fire, so they can fire over your own units. Use them to pepper the enemy as they approach into melee, weakening them for your own charge. In sieges, position them slightly away from the walls (see reference: Wrong Side of the Tracks in GTA San Andreas) so they have room to arc their shots onto/over the walls, and let them rip. After melee commences, their firing line will be obstructed by your melee, so they won't fire. Now switch them to attacking their own ranged units/cavalry, where you have room to hit them. After they've routed, you'll have to manoeuvre them around the melee, to shoot the enemy melee in the back. Mass routs will shortly commence.

Bullet units fire in a straight line, so you can't just fire them over your own units. Stick them in between your melee in your opening formation (fig. 1). Use them to shred the enemy armoured units. When the melee is about to begin, I like to pull them back out of danger (fig. 2) and swing them around. The main objective is to get them firing into the backs of the enemy melee units - at that point, even with lowest tier infantry against Chosen, you're still going to win. The damage is insane.

I also saw a video the other day about creating a killbox with Thunderers - it'll probably only work on AI, but keep it in mind.

They are fun but the campaign is really easy. Its a joke if you side with Warriors of Chaos, but if you kill them without giving up so much as Bretonnia/Empire move on you the campaign fully turns into a joke with the -75% upkeep.

I feel that for my third playthrough, I should just abandon the north and sail around to the Badlands or something and use the outposts to refuel.

As someone who never played Total War before, is this game a good point to start with? Also, is the lore confusing enough to understand? I heard the 40k warhammer has quite deep lore, and I'm guessing it must be the same with this. I always wanted to try total war games because it looks fun as hell to command armies.

Warhammer 1 is good to start with, its easy enough for a beginner to get into. Might as well get 1 now even though 2 comes next month, 1 will satisfy you for a while and then you can get 2 when its cheaper.

Lore isnt deep at all really, fluff is basically just whatever was needed to get two armies full of different fantasy tropes to fight each other.

This is a great point for starting with total war fantasy, you'll actually find that a lot of races are very similar in comparison to fantasy and 40k when you cross over. If you like commanding massive armies total war is a good series to try out in general, not just the warhammer branch off. Try playing the empire or dwarfs first if you are starting out. They are the standard races that play like a normal rts if you could compare them. Playing a super hard race might deter you from playing it. The lore isn't really all that deep. There's a lot of stuff in it that's pretty easy to pick up on, just wiki everything you don't understand, the information is everywhere on wiki's. Don't forget to PRAISE SIGMAR

No direct comparison can be made, unless you can find the actual up to date dev statements, because Steam Spy numbers are no longer reliable due to most TW games having had a free weekend at some point. TWWH did not have a free weekend yet and it sold somewhere around 1.5mil in a year, which is really fucking fast compared to previous TW games. CA has officially stated that TWWH is their fastest selling TW title.
