I don't feel like it had a really strong unified message about much, but a lot of little poignant stories here and there and recurring ideas:
Repeatedly it's shown how similar in many ways the androids and the mechanical lifeforms really are. Both sides are waging a pointless war in servitude to dead masters. Both sides have grievously hurt each other in the process, forming a vicious cycle of revenge. Both are recklessly throwing away their lives and lying to themselves even as outliers have shown that they can coexist happily. Both are fascinated by the dead ways of humans, tempted by a life that isn't defined by constant war. But most important, both sides are incredibly varied and full of individuals with a multitude of motivations and circumstances...simply referring to either side as "Androids" or "Mechs" and generalizing them as justification for destruction is horribly wrong and yet the driving factor of the war. This is important I think.
It seems anti-war but Pascal's pacifism got his entire village wiped out. Accepting the nuclear manual wouldn't have changed that probably but it was symbolic of his refusal to arm himself out of conscientiousness and perhaps also cowardice. Not a fear of being hurt but the fear of taking lives. By the time he snaps and takes an active part in defending his people, it's too late. In the end Pascal succumbs to his regret and wipes his own memory finalizing the absolute meaninglessness of the village's existence. I feel for him, a lot of people don't ever want to fight and they shouldn't have to. But everything has a price, especially pacifism.

Also I never even got to upgrade my Pod once in my entire playthrough from Route A to E. Is this normal? I did side quests too.

Another thing, I saw people on youtube being level ~95. How the fuck is this possible? I ended at ~58. Did they just grind insanely for some reason or did I miss 50% of the game?

there's an easy way to grind levels

first, use chapters selection to go to the entrance of the amusement park with 9S, then, hack into one of the peaceful robots (try to hack those who have cannons) and kill any other robot. While still in control of the robot, you hack into the golden statue in the middle repeatedly, until it dies. The statue is lvl 80 and gives a LOT of xp after each successful hack on it and when it dies. Once you killed it, take the usual route, until you are in range of the save point, do a quicksave, load your game, rinse and repeat

Don't forget to equip plugin chips to increase your exp gains

Demon's Cry level 4 ability explodes a killed enemy and 9S' charged bracer attack shits out an enormous DPS, it's basically a telekinetic ora ora so he kills one enemy really fast and everything around gets like 3k damage too.
