Should I play the original Metroid II or just play AM2R?
No nostalgiafaggotry or shilling please.
Well anon, you kinda boxed everyone into a trap here considering every post will be called shilling or nostalgiafagging by someone else.
Am2R is the better game, but if you want to be a Metroid completionist, play both.
Play both, they're very different experiences.

Metroid II is a very basic game.
If you liked the very first one on NES then you'll have a grand time busting out the pen and paper maps.
If you don't have the patience be lost for hours just play AM2R and skip the first.
Otherwise play both.

AM2R
Metroid II has aged poorly imo
Play the original and then play Samus Returns. Then after that play AM2R . Or vice versa.
Play both, but play Metroid II before you play AM2R. That's what I did a few months back. Metroid II does have several issues such as having no map with similar looking rooms, lack of music in some areas, and one room that requires intense memorization to get out of if you get trapped there, but it's still doable to get through. I still think you should play Metroid II before AM2R and/or Samus Returns, but that doesn't mean I'm guaranteeing you the most fun experience with it.

Aren't we getting new Samus Returns footage tomorrow or is it just old stuff? I'm not really sure what else they could show without basically spoiling the rest of the game. Metroid 2 is not long at all.

No idea. I haven't paid much attention to the game since I want to go into it blind.
They're different games. Metroid II is a linear search-and-destroy mission. AM2R is a mix of the original's format and Zero Mission's style of gameplay, with some blatant fan pandering thrown in.

This.
Metroid 2 isn't that great, and I say that as someone who's first Metroid game was that game
Metroid II is a lot more about survival and is generally slower-paced while AM2R is more faster and action-packed like Fusion or Zero Mission. I personally prefer the original but I'd say they're both worth giving a go.

Which should I play first, though? II?

no wonder metroid is dead

Play them both. AM2R is pretty nice, adds on a bit to the game, has nice graphics and music.

God I hate the tumblr/neoga/v/ metroid fanbase
>>387938132
Both are great. It's just kinda difficult on the original one because of the maps and color limitation.
Am2r plays so well, it has more features that it could almost be a separate game. Enjoyed them both, but I think the magical feel is on AM2R. Have fun, anon.

I was probably going to go with the DX version of the original if I played it. Does that fix some of the problems with rooms looking the same because of color?
>>387938132
AM2R is like Zero Mission. It's very loosely based on the original, but it adds a ton of new shit and it's basically a new game. Also the original is shit.

I thought metroid was on the 24th?
