the whole point of the series was lighting the lighthouses and saving the world from falling apart because no Alchemy. Golden Sun is pure, solidified Alchemy. It's not even mentioned beyond the title until the last few minutes of the game.

It's pretty good. Gives me nostalgia.
Sure it wasn't spetacular if you compare others jrpgs but at the time, something like it on a portable was unheard.

The first game is wordy as fuck, the second game is GOAT, the DS game is offensively mediocre.

People feel more strongly opposed to Dark Dawn as a sequel rather than the original titles. Although there are your usual "tl;dr" anons that prefer their story summarized in order to get on with the show, which Golden Sun clearly didn't have. Or the anons that wanted something more out of it.

I liked the games for what they were, at least and even though the story admittedly might've not been the most creative piece out there, it does try its best to immerse the player into its story. Music was pretty great (although I'm sad we'll probably never get a remaster and we're stuck with the GBA's god awful chipset sound) and I liked the interface, the Djinn system, how it's a RPG that reminds me of older times, simple and straight to the point with nothing too complex. Characters felt believable, the overworld was enormous and there would be a mystery on each corner each time. The puzzles were fun too, whenever you wouldn't come across your usual enemy.

It's bad game design and irritated players. Not accounting for a random critical ht and punishing the player for miscalculating because of random chance is annoying, it has nothing to do with "mashing A". Crits aren't just a once in a while thing either, over half the weapons are built around those cool-looking weapon effects/skills that deal extra damage when they proc.

JRPGs are terrible. They have braindead combat, generic stories/characters and terrible writing. The average JRPG fan is an autist who needs every character to constantly have lengthy monologues because they can't properly comprehend emotion and subtext without it being explicitly told to them. That's not to say that other genres have good writing, but JRPGs have notably bad writing. If you enjoy JRPGs then that's fine but they are objectively poor games that only exist because there was a time when video game consoles had limited capabilities and developers couldn't do any better at the time.
