Can someone explain to me why every new 2D fighter for the last 30 years just wants to be this game? Seriously, im seeing 2D games in 2017 coming out gimping themselves to look and play the way 2D fighters did 30 years ago. What fucking gives? Why are 2D fighting games so afraid of change?

Yeah, they all want to be SFII at their mosr base of base. At least some games have tries to move away from the only 2D formula that exists. You might be able to add features and mechanics to these games anon, but they are still at their core trying to suck SFII's cock for eternity. The games' animations actually look smoother for the most part, you're just remembering it wrong.
I will admit arcsys has a specific animation style that might look a bit odd to anyone new to them. But that has NOTHING to do with 90's animations or anyone trying to copy them.

Sounds like a personal problem of you not liking fighting games in general. Might even stem from you getting your ass handed to you from experienced players. OP and the rest of your posts reek of "casual" mindsets that fighting games need to have 0 execution so everyone can play them. Its this line of thinking that made SFV, a massive turd nobody, not even casuals like because they still get their ass handed to them.

The execution, the grind, the investment in learning complex mechanics are part of what makes these games so great. If you dont like those and just want to pummel on textures you just like brawlers, a different genre of games.

Being constricted in the 2D plane is what made these games have creative mechanics to compensate and resulted in great games with depth. Again, if you cant understand that you dont want to play fighting games and should probably direct your interest to arena brawlers like nu-Dissidia or Gundam arena games.

Have you even played older fighting games yourself? Cause modern arcsys sprite emulation is far ahead of whatever was possible back then. If budokai and tenkaichi devs had the resources and talent to make their 3d engine look exactly like the anime they would have done so without a doubt.

Just because you don't know how to play the game, it doesn't mean it's the same as every other 2D fighting game

Systems like Dragon Rush replacing grabs, forced neutral starts at character knockout, and a dedicated meter charge immediately differentiate it from Marvel 3, it's closest competitor. It's even further different from Infinite.

The pseudo-2D artstyle is meant to replicate the sharp, flat style and frame by frame control of classic animation (like smears or deformation) whilst keeping the scalability and ease of use 3D models apply.

This game defined fighting games.
Plenty of games are trying to deviate from it, sometimes, quite successfully, but there will probably never be a fighting game that can be a cultural icon the way SFII was, however good it is.
