DCS has varying degrees of sim.

Flaming Cliffs gets shit on by some of the DCS community because it's not the "everything in the cockpit is clickable and takoff takes 15 minutes" super realistic sim the other modules are, but unlike the other modules, you don't pay upwards of $50 for a single aircraft and have to rely on community-made missions for gameplay. It has a bunch of aircraft, many of which have their own mini campaign associated with it.

By that logic, the only "modern aircraft" are the F35, SU57, and J20. Even the F22 is 20 years old, and so's the Typhoon. The Rafale is 30 years old. F14s aren't old enough for the US to start selling them to other nations, like the F4 Phantoms it sold to Japan and South Korea. It's modern enough.

Japan has F/A-18s & Strike Eagles (some with the thrust vectoring package and ECM package, and electronic warfare package). They are merely a 5-10 years behind the US ins ales. US has been getting desperate after getting overtaken last year in Global Arms Sales by Russia. Shit has been a long time coming too. It has terrified the powers that be to their core. HAWX 1 was incredible. Just no co-op online and the game kinda flopped so online died young. The gameplay was amazing. Loved the advanced maneuver gimmick, especially in a locked-cockpit mode server.

HAWX 2 had the sweet co-op campaign, but no one wanted to play online. Ded on arrival.

Wish they'd try again.

No one's mentioned Vector Thrust yet, so I will. It plays just like Ace Combat, and it's moddable. Unfortunately, the campaign is really short. The game isn't really finished, and the developer seems to have vanished. Still, if you can get it cheap during a sale, it's worth a few bucks.
