why have absolutely no games come even close to the original FFCC's soundtrack? or atmosphere and worldbuilding in general. We went from fleshed out levels and environments with narrated introductions and backstories, to "fire mountain" and "ice mountain" in the sequels. I'll never not be disappointed.

Because it did a theme that hasn't even been attempted since, the whole game revolved around this story book atmosphere and every inch of the game lived and breathed that theme. The music, the worlds, the whole idea that the point of these adventures was to build up memories to pass on to future generations just like you have the stories before you enter every dungeon.

They had one clear vision on every aspect of the game and they knocked that vision out of the park instead of spreading the game thin doing too many things. It's really a shame nintendo wanted to slap the GBA gimmick on it because without it I think this game would be far more widely remembered as a masterpiece.
