Maybe because /v/ does not actually reject the mainstream. /v/ is a giant clusterfuck, and as such it is impossible for /v/ to not also like the mainstream. Remember that this place is not just one guy, and at this point, it isn't even one hivemind anymore, but instead several different hiveminds, interwoven with each other, a system of pushbacks and pushback-pushbacks.
