With the fresh update I reckon it's as good time as ever to discuss the rather stale subject.
Is it worth buying the game right away? Will they increase the price? Will the modifying terrain, available in creative mode right now stay available?
Here's our romantic evening dinner under the moon with my fishfu
It'd generally help to acquire literacy, nigger.
It's absolutely worth buying.
>>387839562
>Still in early access
>Start work on expansion
How do people still fall for these scams?
>>387839562
Are you getting off on abusing other people?
How deep do I have to dig to keep myself away from nasty assholes such as yourself?
>>387839702
>STARTING work on expansion
>a month before leaving early access
I bet you refunded Sonic Mania on PC.
Or you're the type of nigger that says it "justifies" piracy of it
>>387839702
it's alright for art department to start on designing expansion, when others (coders mostly) are busy with optimising the main content.
Have they actually finished the campaign?
Have they finally gotten rid of the voxel terrain?
>>387840257
Yes.
>>387840320
doesn't look like it. The only thing about this game that's dragging me down.
>>387840320
I don't think so - i can see the fair amount of micro-stutter - but the performance seems to be massively increased (as compared to june update)
It's a Subnautica thread, Mr. Search Engine
>>387839240
So, uh, what am I supposed to do in this game?
I've just been building my base on and around this island ever since that rescue shit got blown up.
Is the developer still afraid of guns?
>>387842814
get your ass to mars(which is your home now)
Is there support for Touch controllers yet?
>>387839240
I just want them to finish it so I can start playing it again. Haven't played since just before they redid the water and I dislike restarting constantly so I've been patiently waiting.
>>387839562
>They still haven't added the cute fish
Wow. Too busy working on that ancient evil bullshit I guess.
>>38784323?
which touch controllers? vr or tablet
>>387843140
>there's more islands
Fuck yes. I hate how I can't see the island from the escape pod but I can see the shipwreck from the island. Not sure if they fixed it this patch but there was a strange thing going on where I could view the island from underwater but it wasn't visible above the water until I got closer.
>>387843428
I dunno what happened there, but Oculus.
It's fantastic and a totally different experience with the headset on, but I really would prefer if they had Touch controller support rather than having to hold an Xbox controller.
Did they fix the crazy frame drops and pop in yet?
>>387839240
Does the cyclops still give off boneshark sex pheromones? Or did they finally tone that shit down?
WHERE'D THE HIGH CAPACITY O2 TANK GO.
WHERE DID IT GO.
>>387839562
>>387843332
How exactly is the cute fish going to work?
Will it be in our inventory when we start a new game or do you reckon it'll just be swimming around the life pod or something. Also anyone else had that weird double life pod thing happen to them? My original one went red and said it was unsafe for human life, but just as it did that another empty function life pod was floating in the water right next to my one, so I just moved over there. Then when I relaunched the game my new life pod was gone and my old one was fine.
>>387843684
stutter feels less obnoxious, but it ain't perfect
>>387843617
i'd suggest to send the dev team a suggestion to add one - they are infamously slow w/ coding and taking initiatives w/ new features support
>>387839240
If you wanna wait an extra 2-3 months for them to add in the ending and optimize some shit then go ahead, but at this point there's little reason to sit around and wait for them to raise the price. The game is like 95% finished.
>>387843937
quite obviously, some kind of immortal pet that follows you around.
real question is - can you cook it for perma-boost?
>>387844238
Aren't you going to have to restart when they finally yank teraforming though?
I'm hoping that is still happening right?
>>387843873
I'm still wearing mine, but I couldn't see it in the fabricator when I looked.
would really really like more non-aggressive life. Everything wants to kill you or is a small fish aside from the treaders and reefbacks. Game needs a few more whale and dolphin style life forms. I'd also love another above sea island, maybe with a unique enemy on it.
>>387843051
Yes.
Of harpoons, spear guns, torpedoes, and bang-sticks as well. But subjecting creatures to a slow and painful death via 1,000 cuts with a knife is fine.

it just keeps escalating. first, you swim through entire ocean to the north to see old blue whale. Then you seek for atlantic city. Then time travel to jurassic swim pool, then fight the god of DNA, then traverse through artificial tornado from ocean to stratosphere to space vehicle
>>387847180

But that's okay, we have Farsky Subnautica'esque, not ashamed of underwater voxel terrain forays with lethal weapons

Great game before they ruined the Cyclops. Exploration is a fucking chore now. Move a bit, get out, fix cyclops, get in, creature attack and annoying alarm. Kill hostile fish. Repeat. Gg never finishing lost river
Why does /v/ defend this game but not No Man's Sky?

>>387839240
Did they ever improve on the painfully myopic draw distance and ridiculous pop in
A game about exploration with pop in is literally broken
>>387848534
Did subnautica devs promise multiplayer?
>>387839240
bad game
>>387849175
No, but even if they did the game would still be fun.
>>387848965
to be frank, it wasn't that bad - hopefully, that will be improved once they move the world from voxel to fixed mesh
>>387849175
not really - they don't have competent enough coders for such task, so the way around that is modding scene, which has already provided some mp stuff
>>387848965

>>387849856
I kept hearing how nasty those things are, but I found they are actually easy to dodge and swim around, so... don't bother and they won't care?
>>387847954
This is fucking incoherent.
God I wish there was Significant lobbying for full auto firearms.
>>387850048
When you're swimming across a vast open area like towards the ship, there's not a lot of hiding places and they're upon you before you know it. But yeah, sometimes you've got options.
i think im going to wait until its released to ever go back to it, seemed so incomplete when i first tried it a long time ago, just scouring the sea floor for blueprint pieces, just retarded gameplay
>>387850151
So individual states can just ban them?
>>387850151
this isn't some legislative issue - this is a personal creative project of some person and they should be free to do with it whatever they want.
I'm not fond of that double-faced explanation (because some of the utilities in the game are as nasty and lethal as plain projectile weapons) and i couldn't care less about the background decisions, but i do find the game about survival without blatant firing solution a much more interesting challenge.
>>387847954
I sympathize with wanting "more creative solutions to solve our problems." That's downright admirable. But everything else reeks of having their head so far up their ass they think a harpoon in a fish game is going to contribute to violence in the world at large? Just how self-important are they that they think they're going to have that kind of impact?
>>387850504
>(because some of the utilities in the game are as nasty and lethal as plain projectile weapons)
I think the point is people don't go killing others with exploding fish and gas torpedos in real life.
>>387850628
I don't think anyone asked for them to put in an automatic rifle. Well, no one above the age of 13.
>>387850754
People ask them to put in spear guns because people are retarded and think a single small metal spear is going to do anything to a sea creature three times the size of a metro city bus.
>>387850496
Yes that would absolutely be better.
>>387850504
My main issue is the explanation, but I don't like survival games omitting basic concepts for survival.
It ran too slow on my system (i7, Geforce 1080ti) and the ground clipping/gaps threw me off. I'll probably try again next time I upgrade my PC (1-2 years).
>>387850867
It would be neat to use that to hitch a ride on something big.
>>387850867
I wouldn't mind a speargun if it was just for smallfry predators. You could even give those predators a useful resource and have players go out to hunt them.
Everything that shoots doesn't need to be for killing the biggest threats in the game.
>>387850889
Guns don't work 1000 meters underneath the sea, at least not any conventional ones. Spearguns would be shit because
1. A spear gun is a very slow weapon. Think a crowwbow.
2. You get one shot
So they can add spear guns but I want it to be a totally useless weapon that takes up as many slots as the stasis gun and each spear takes up 5 slots itself. Takes 3 spears to kill anything larger than a sandshark.
>>387850867
there are spear guns for smaller fish, and there are stationary harpoon cannons.
They are however legally obliged to put, along with harpoon cannon, a "the bigger they are..." achievement, which is something i'll gladly avoid even if it will cost me something as badass as the picrelated
>>387850867
>big fish is faster than you
>shoot with speargun and it shrugs it off
>parachete on spear expands
>big fish is slower than you
It looks like they screwed up and removed the option to create beacons, but the performance improvements are definitely noticeable. The positioning in VR still gets fucked up so you have to move forward a foot every time you get in a vehicle to not be staring at your own neck, but looking around inside the Seamoth feels much more spacious, which is a bigger deal than it sounds.
>>387850893
6600+1070 and the framerate, not counting microstutter, was at 70-150 on max, MSAAx4, 1080p
>>387851090
>1. A spear gun is a very slow weapon. Think a crowwbow.
Risk-reward. Slower shot but does substantial damage.
>2. You get one shot
It's the future. You can justify a magical spear clip if you wanted to, and justify it with enough flashy effects.
>So they can add spear guns but I want it to be a totally useless weapon that takes up as many slots as the stasis gun and each spear takes up 5 slots itself.
That's dumb. The game is already too stingy with inventory space. If anything they need to figure out how a player can tote around enough to function on the most basic of levels.
>>387848490
Didn't the latest update fix it so that nothing short of a Leviathan would even attack the Cyclops?
>>387848731
No, it's supposed to happen automatically.
Unless they changed it in a recent update.
Worth noting though that last time I tried that, I couldn't build them that high without the floor appearing through after like 6 levels, so idk.
>>387851543
they did - they fixed the jihad sharks that would ram the boat until dead
>>387851543
Nope, was just playing yesterday and I can't make it into the lower section of the lost river without a fucking fire breaking out. Apparently they added shielding for the cyclops but I haven't seen where its recipe is, and I doubt it's going to make the Cyclops as comfy as before.
>>387851517
>that's dumb
No, what's dumb is wanting a terrible "Weapon" because you don't seem to get conventional ones are not meant to recreate COD miles under the ocean. Real spear guns are not meant to be replacements for AK-47's
>>387851405
Maybe I'll try again on lower resolution, I've got 4k.
>>387839240
no co op
no buy
>>387851747
1. It's a fucking video game, a "spear gun" can be as good or bad as they like because this game has already established technology exists that would appear to us to be "magic."
2. I never asked for it to be fucking "COD" I just said your ideas are dumb.
>>387851698
fire will break out only if you run the engine at alert speed, dingus (also, there's module for auto-extinguishing fire).
kill the engine and the boat will become invisible, wait for overshield to recharge - rinse, repeat
Sell me on this game. I heard good stuff, is there any end game? I hate total freedom, I need goals.
>>387839702

I don't care how much its been updating during early access, games shouldn't be released in early access AT ALL

>>387844068

>>387852241

>>387852241
>fush
???
>>387851889
Good to know, but considering you're under creature attack every 4 seconds that still sounds like a pain in the ass and would be counter-intuitive to a game about exploration. Please tell me I'm wrong.
>>387852530
i guess it's just inevitable - the frustration of having something taken away from you, which is the major negative thing about early access.
Here we are - some people have accepted that Cyclops was a freaking unsinkable mobile fortress of mass destruction and when devs reasonably nerfed it to make a game less of a cake walk, player were pissed.
I got on board after Cyclops was nerfed and was fine with what has been provided for counter-measuring attacks and could easily deal with the sharks even when they were 100% allakhu akbar on anything named after mythical creature
My Oculus Rift is arriving from Amazon tomorrow. How is this game in VR?
>>387853072
Pants-shitting scary, I reckon.
It got one hell of a jumpscare from me even without any VR and i'm pretty hardened with horror genre, when I have foolishly went to explore the empty abyss in search of alien underwater structure
>>387852530
anything the size of bonesharks stopped attacking it as of last update, you can keep silent running going as long as you want and deactivate/reactivate it as you see fit and the same goes for the shield module, said shield just consumes a constant stream of power now though
also you can have 6 module upgrades in your cyclops now
>>387854230
>anything the size of bonesharks stopped attacking it as of last update
Oh thank god.
I still remember a boneshark swimming what seemed like half the map just to hit my completely parked Cyclops once then turn around and swim away.
>>387847954
>one where we are not at the top of the food chain
They should throw this guy into a pit full of hungry tigers and see how he enjoys not being at the top of the food chain
>>387843861
Yeah they wont attack anymore, along with 2 other creatures I cant remember, but I think it was just all the minor annoyances removed
