I mean, not even Sony was able to develop a decent software emulation back when they removed the PS2 chips from the PS3.

PS2's architecture is an absolute undocumented nightmare.

I always thought calling PS2 emulators bad was just a meme since they've been working well enough for me, although often I had to change specific settings for each games.

Then I tried PSP emulator, and holy fuck I maxed every fucking setting on it and it still felt stable as fuck, like i'm literally using a PSP on PC. Now I also think PCSX2 is dogshit, although i'm still very glad that it's usable at least.

>>
>>387834617

It bothers me that they took Haunting Ground off the North American PSN store. Sure, I bought it off the Japanese one but I can't read Japanese.

The PCSX2 emulator can't do the lighting effects in the game in hardware mode so you're stuck using the native resolution of the PS2, basically negating any advantage you might have over playing it on an actual console.

>>
>>387839028

The PS2 has a GPU that doesn't need shaders to be generated on the fly so its not really a valid comparison.

The problem with PCSX2 is that its gone through a bunch of different developers who didn't maintain their code and relied on per game hacks that never god removed, so fixing things by focusing on accuracy is a huge pain in the ass.

>>387839265
You mean like every emu dev that has to cover their ass and not promote piracy. Most people are going to be pirating their games, many will be dumping them to be official. Regardless, in the future these emulators will be the sole way of playing these classic games so its worth it long term.

>>
>>387840852
>The PS2 has a GPU that doesn't need shaders to be generated on the fly so its not really a valid comparison.
I'm not comparing emulators, I'm pointing out how retarded emulation fanboys are. Dolphin was literally trash tier for not being able to play any of its popular games without stuttering. PCSX2 has been a better way to play far more games for the past ten years up until just last month. And so now they're about equally as good.
>>
>>387840779
Well the emulator uses more resources than it should if running in hardware mode, that alone is a sign of poor optimization, that's the same as saying a bad port is ok because it runs fine on your PC, stop being retarded.

Once you get past the opening and actually into the first palace, after the dungeon tutorial, it is actually quite bearable. I'm already on the second palace. Has Blizzard even done anything of note with it? Or did they just pull a Disney and throw it into a file cabinet somewhere to just sit on it?

Just so you know, Demon Souls ran like shit on the actual PS3 and was limited to 30 FPS until Dark souls 3 so you may actually be playing it at "full speed". I played it on the PS3 when it first came out just for reference.
>>
Games i've played and completed no problem on PCSX2 back in 2010:

Okami
SSX 1-4 (small tweak needed for 2)
God of war 1-2
Shadow of the Colossus
Ico
Bully
DBZ Budokai 2 and 3 (100% speed in software mode)
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Super DBZ
DBZ Infinite World
THPS 3-4
Parrapa The Rapper 2
Katamari Damacy

And this was 7 years ago.

Some of those games did have problems but they are very minor nitpicks. You have the right attitude in that if you can play it, the emulator is working well, but people will argue with you.

never going to happen, the Mednafen emulator is already more accurate than the official emulator Sony created for PS3 and I'm pretty sure it runs all comercially released games without issues, so there's no need for cycle accuracy
>n64
check out CEN64, it already runs some games but it's still WIP
>>
>>387841362
Yea just don't use only that to browse your games. Retroarch routinely skips games in your folder it fit doesn't recognize them and doesn't warn you so make sure to check your folder every now and then to make sure you don't miss any good stuff.

only thing I wish they'd properly integrate is a raw input hack for the mouse. There's still a hack/mod for ss2 that makes the mouse input perfect. It doesn't work in Thief, not to mention that in Thief your mouselook still stutters if you look all the way down at your feet.

Apparently they've fixed that in the latest version.

I know that shit does need to match their No-Intro md5 hashes.

Though once it knows you've got a game, you can patch it and it'll keep the cover art.
>>
>>387841362
I'm still having trouble on how to properly use Retroarch. If it can run PS1 & N64 games better than stuff like Mednafen/ePSXe/Project64/Mupen64, I'll gladly use it, because I have absolutely no idea how to use Mednafen correctly, even with that GUI someone made for it.

I use it for PS1 games, but I've still got some project 64 saves so I haven't transfered over to mupen64 and retroarch for N64 emulation

I'm pretty sure mednafen is just a unix command line application and just uses a config file, but I don't know how mapping gamepads would work with it.

Its not like mpv for video files, which you should be using by now over mpchc.

Apparently the new glide64 plugin is really good and until we get CEN64 and a good pluginless emulator, I hope retroarch can make a standard with it.

I used to know this one mexican forum that had all the obscure PS3 stuff, especially DLC. Stuff I couldn't find anywhere else even on two different private trackers. The direct download links were never dead and worked perfectly though. Shit was great.

hunter was a great coop game.
i have an original copy for the gamecube that i transfered to my wii hard drive for use in usbloadergx. a first gen wii that is hacked is basically the best coop machine you can get for your living room unless you can build a strong htpc that can run dolphin and pcsx2 well.
getting a wii is the cheap option though. just hack it and put like a 128gb usbstick on it for wii and gamecube games as well as roms for emulators.
>>
>>387843772
Yea but the point of playing on an emulator is to run the game at an increased resolution otherwise you'd be better off just playing the console version.

That was never true. It renders in 1080p then scales the image to 4k to make the black outlines crisper or some shit. Some guy mistranslated it and said it rendered at 4k.

Most games have cheats but not many have cheats outside of blatantly making the game easier. KH2 has a "turbo" cheat which speeds up the game as an example of a JRPG with added difficulty, you can also play FF12's "weak mode" where you don't level up if you enable it in your save.

Can't really think of anything else but I'm sure some games have patches available that would make games harder. Alternatively you could make your own if you know how.
>>
>>387844718
On my old hardware (AMD FX-4300 + GTX660) I had little issue running some of the more popular titles. Some of the lesser known games like Bloody Roar some of the older multiplatform games had a few issues, but it still ran smooth as can be.

I'm tempted to reinstall Dolphin and see how hard I can push it with my new specs.
>>
>>387844890
I'd also take simple model swaps to make a second run through more interesting. Like having the protag model swapped with the secondary character.
I remember playing GBA romhacks with sprite swaps. It was fun.
>>
>>387845228
Not many PS2 games have mods to do that. You can do this HEAVILY in the Persona games though. All of those games share the same model format and there are tools to do almost whatever the fuck you want in regards to sound and models. Kingdom Hearts 2 is similar.

No and I doubt it will run better than PCSX2, it runs fine on it. It might upscale better though since it removed some of the shader passes which bug out on PCSX2.
