To be honest, Armada is probably way better at Melee than anybody has ever been at any fighting game. No other game has had the lifespan of melee.

Melee gameplay was extremely primitive for many years. They started from scratch, and didn't have experience or the right culture for quickly developing the game. Sm4sh today is way more advanced than Melee was in 2010, because it's a progression of a culture with great focus on exploring metagames quickly.
The same is the case for the FGC. They have a long history where player skill has been transfered between the games, and they have an advanced culture for quickly exploring new games.

Age of the game isn't necessarily an indication of player skill. Age of the community is much more important.

The problem is, Melee is actually a shit game if you want to get into fighting games.

It's so completely different from like SF or KOF that you can apply almost none of the knowledge from playing Melee towards those games.

All the "tech skill" that Melee has doesn't exist in other fighting games . In a sense it's almost a completely different genre.

And no, I don't care that I called Melee a fighting game, I personally think it is but if you don't think so that's fine with me. I like both traditional fighting games and Smash, I'm just noting that the uniqueness of Melee and the way it's played makes it bad if you want to get into fighting games in general.

Tekken is also a shit game to learn if you wanna get into SF and anime, but you see slightly more overlap between playerbases due to how close the communities are (and also because SF, in its current state especially, is hilariously easy to pick up and do well with if you have any sort of fighting game fundamentals).
