Shitposting aside, gameplay involves more than just combat. Someone that plays BotW isn't looking for good combat in thr gameplay, it just has to serviceable.
Also, if it's not a good RTS, FPS, or Fighting, it has shit combat... These genres feel pretty much perfect when they're done well.
Someone is still trying to make a 3D "fighting" game, but everything from M&B, Chivalry, DMC, Bayo, MGR, Dark Souls, BB, Nioh, etc, are all worse than 15-year old fighting games in terms of combat.

Gameplay has to be exceptional for the story to be mediocre and have people still play it, like dragons dogma.
The entire reason you are playing, and what your actions are even for, is what the story, dialogue and quest design is holding together.
You might as well try and learn a languages entire vocabulary and ignore their grammar.
