It's not that. I actually like running endgame lab. It's relaxing for me. The recent changes also helped in making it more worth it.

3.0 was disappointing, I didn't think there would be so much recycling as there was. There were so many fucking zones that were just reused maps (which themselves are reused normal areas). Oriath was boring and had too many humanoid enemies. Kitava was gay.

3.0 is great. The new bosses are cool and there's a nice difficulty progression instead of the weird schizophrenic jumps that resulted from the implementation of the fourth act.
Harbinger league sucks, but you can most of the time just ignore harbingers. It's fortunately just dull instead of being annoying like Tempest.

You need facebreaker or doryani's fist to make it work. NEED in call caps. They are the items that enable the whole build. Just use weapons until you get the ~3 chaos orbs you need to buy some mediocre roll ones and then switch over.

Facebreaker builds though are pretty gear dependant so you're probably gonna have a shit time of it regardless.

Felt lame. Never liked the atlas system. All that effort to build a cohesive story with meaning and atmosphere only to hit the brick wall of endless map grinds... not great. The bosses are okay, Kitava's the only one that has problems, and they make you fight that piece of shit twice. They clearly did not even consider melee builds when designing that dude. Earthquake doesn't even trigger the aftershock if you hit him from the front, and he regularly makes the whole area in melee range non-survivable for long periods of time with that blood shit.

Every other boss if you feel like it you can face tank. The add phases are specifically to give breaks to recharge flasks, they kinda have to have something like that or they'd need to make bosses shorter, as not doing either would invalidate a fuckton of builds.

There is no learning curve in PoE.
Just build the most boring build possible, and mash your potion buttons as necessary. Only a few builds are actually decent for the late game. If you do what you think would be fun you're going to end up severely lacking in either DPS or defense. And no matter how you build some enemies in the game will just oneshot you regardless.

PoE isn't a game where you learn what you should do, its a game where you learn that everything you want to do is what you shouldn't do.

First league where leveling actually bored the shit out of me. With 3 difficulties it was repetitive but comfy and didn't feel too much like a chore, after act 4 there was a nice drop in difficulty right as your build would hit its stride so cruel and merciless just flew by smoothly. Now act 5 hits and you're expected to have a fully functional boss-capable build that has already come online with sustain, dps, and layered defenses. It just feels fucking bad, the pressure to have all your shit together by level 40 is nonsensical. I can't see new players sticking it out past innocence, much less kitava, if they picked a bad skill to build around.
Meanwhile maps feel easier and more trivial than ever, right up until a boss sits there flailing wildly for 2 minutes of being a big fat healthsponge. The health increase should have been staggered much more, t1 bosses shouldn't be "harder" than uber izaro or normal atziri.

Like anything it takes time, but you also have to pay attention to why your builds fail. If you want to make your own builds you just have to create them and see why they fail. the general idea is to pick a few key areas on the skilltree that you'll go to and snag all the life/res on the way there and yeah. Spellcasters just take levels and proper skilltree planning. Anything that relies on base damage of a weapon requires money or luck to find good damage. Start with a magic find build but design it yourself.

I have two desecrates and Spirit Offering linked to CWDT, and pump as much max health as I can along with MoM and armor, which certainly keeps me alive since I get free 15% health as ES pretty much constantly, but I went left on the tree and traveled so much to hit nodes for Earthquake, but long term I can only see myself like 100k DPS tops. i was actually enjoying the character i was playing (srs). i just didn't really enjoy grinding maps. i'm sure this build could do any content i'd like to, but i don't feel like grinding maps.

It's a skill that scales from a defensive stat. Anything that scales offense and defense off of the same stat has a tendency to be strong, it's why HoWa, RF, and Whispering Ice were good in the ES meta, and why Baron, RF, and this are all good in the life meta.
