Depends if the game is trying to be an authentic, realistic experience or not.

But most of the time I don't prefer those games. I'd rather see if the developers and artists can come up with some well thought-out, researched and (almost) mechanically sound firearms that look nice and function well enough.

The added length of the barrel doesn't do a whole lot extra damage - you could justify it for small tweaks here and there, but ultimately the longer barrel is for more accuracy and straighter trajectory over distance.

The difference between an 8 inch AR and a 20 inch AR is like, 2,400 feet per second and 3,000 feet per second. You should easily use this to justify some damage increase, or damage fall off at range being lesser, and work some gameplay mechanics in there based on bullet drop and overall gun accuracy

but this idea that a 5.56 is going to do 70 damage in a "Sniper" vs like 30 damage per hit in a rifle class is kind of silly.
