Why is this not on consoles?
Seriously, this game is damn popular and nothing like it on consoles.
>>
>>387768509
Anyone with an IQ high enough to not immediately tantrum over their units breaking already owns a PC.
>>
>>387768509
Consoles literally have such shit CPUs they literally die from this game, its sad even a q6600 can play this shit LOL
>>
>>387768581
Hey, sometimes I punch my keyboard while playing this especially when fighting against tree huggers.
>>
>>387768509
>hue begging for pc exclusives
>>
>>387768695
Literally?
>>
I don't think console CPUs would survive playing this game. Also, playing it with a controller must be an absolute bitch.
>>
we have better RTS games desu like halo wars which for some reason isn't as treated as well as it should be here.
>>
>>387768509
Ignoring performance issues which shouldn't be because TW is not optimized one biit, how woulld a controller be able to handle this game iin real time?
>>
>>387768879
Oh you!
>>
>>387768829
Mad?
>>
>>387768879
Halo wars has potential but the base building is too restrained.
>>

Even still how the fuck would you quickly click and drag out formations?
How would you quickly select units without cycling through all of them?
>>
>>387768912
t. never played the game

halo wars was amazing. seriously underrated and halo wars 2 is going to be hype
>>
>>387768901

Total War already has pausing and it's not like you need to constantly micromanage your troops.
>>
>>387768901
Slomo button and satellite (top down) view exist.
>>
>>387768967
Halo Wars 2 was released earlier this year anon. What the fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>387768990
What about difficulties that don't allow for pausing?
>not like you need to micromanage your troops
In a fight that isn't just a stomp you do
>>
>>387768879
>halo wars
And guess who makes it anon?
>>
It could just have mouse support, you know, and perfomance issues could be solved with changes to graphics.

The real reason is that it wouldn't sell because an average console player is too dumb for a game even this simple.
>>
I liked Goblin Commander
>>
>>387769228
The game is more dependant on CPU. So unless they force unit sizes to Tiny, no amount of graphical downgrades will make it playable.
>>
>>387769228
changing graphics wouldn't help. its a cpu intensive game and all 3 current consoles have weak cpus.
>>
>>387768990
>He doesn't play against other players
Micromanagement is the difference between surviving a battle and crushing one.
>>
>tfw just run dorfs because I'm a shitter
I want to play as the Carstein for skeltals but I'm sure my armies would completely crumble away during fights.

I played and beat Halo Wars, and can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that there is no strategy involved with the UNSC campaign whatsoever. Every single joke about making tanks and clicking the objective is 100% true. Don't overvalue that game, it was pretty but that's about it.

>Giving Warhammer further exposure to consolebabies

No thanks. Too many casuals shitting up Warhammer as it is with this game introducing them to it.

because console players would laugh at it

When a dev says something, the first thing you should be doing before thinking of the best case most hype scenario is thinking of the monkey's paw version of it that still technically accomplishes what they said.
>>
Strategy games aren't impossible to play on consoles. I used to play KKnD "competitively" on the PS1 as a kid against my friends and the controls weren't that bad. I imagine if you map the pause function to some easy to reach key you could comfortably play the game in singleplayer and multiplayer could simply be cut from the console version of the game.
>>
Are console players even smart enough to handle it on like easy even? Would they even be able to cav cycle
>>
>>387771704
Bud, that map IS the gimped one. It has manlet sized TWW2 continents, which is the meme.
>>
>>387770392
Yeah whatever. Even if it is the exact same image they showed I doubt its anything more than promo material they had for it. The reality is that its going to be both games' maps cut-down and stuck together, not the entire first game with some shit from the second.

It's a great mix of Total War style strategy and unit movement, but with playable Hero units.

>>
>>387774637
This human-thing is right!
>>
>>387774637
Whats the lore reason why Humans deny the existence of skaven?
You would think with Demons, Dragons, Gods, Chaos mutated people and beastmen, ratmen would be much more believable
>>
>>387775194
Those things don't live right under human cities and make people disappear daily. It's handy to have a "Beyond this line on the map everyone wants to kill us" enemy, they don't provoke panic the way infiltrators do.
>>
>>387775301
But from what I can tell (And I only played Total warhammer, not big into the lore) isn't Chaos corruption and vampire corruption everywhere/can be everywhere?
>>
>>387775194
Because up until the End Times the Skaven have only ever done two things right out of literally everything they've ever done: gifting the warp blade to kill Nagash and the doctrine of silence.
All those other things have clear boundaries of where to go and not go and what to do and not do to get fucked up. Having hundreds or thousands of man sized rats beneath your feet for every single human and not a single one has appeared for anybody but the cities sewer ratters, a crazy lot to begin with, to see? Not possible.
>>
>>387775194
Humans do know, the Empire knows of them. It's just the general human populace doesn't and probably for the best. Imagine your Glorious Empire telling you "Oh yeah by the way, there's a metric fuck ton of rat people that live almost everywhere underground, regular poison shit, assassinate shit, have pretty good tech, regularly fuck with Dwarves, and honestly they could probably wipe us all out." Everyone would freak out at the Empire. It's just easier for everyone if the regular people don't know about them.
>>
Is there a particular lore reason why the Skaven campaign has to start on the "Americas" and can't start on TW1's map? Are there just no noticeable Skaven clans in the Old World that would warrant a LL starting there?
>>
>>387776183
There's plenty. The reason is the second game doesn't include the full Old World unless you buy the first game, silly goy.
>>
>>387776183
>Is there a particular lore reason why the Skaven campaign has to start on the "Americas" and can't start on TW1's map?
Were you not listening? Queek, in the combined campaign, is going for Karak Eight Peaks and will likely start in Skavenblight.
>>
So tried experimenting a lot with Skin Wolves. What is the best use for them? Seems like the armored version btfo the non-armored one and that they are ideal for light armored cavalry units.

So do earthquakes just not exist in the Warhammer world? Because if that shit starts shaking it'll open a MASSIVE fissure that shouldn't actually exist if the Skaven didn't, and that'd be impossible to hide or explain away when every single time something shakes there just so happens to have massive caverns underneath it for no reason.

2) it's not a controller friendly game
3) RTS games have historically sold poorly on consoles

>>
>>387777337
>How active is the multiplayer?
The most active it has ever been in any TW game ever. MP is amazingly good in TWWH1.

>Will I be raped sideways by cheesebuilds
If you know what works and what doesn't you'll get wins in. There's a lot of people playing and not all of them are even good.
>>
>>387768509
>strategy games
>console
assfaggots are already too hard for them and they're made for retards
Not to mention strategy games are really performance heavy because of all the behind the scenes stuff
>>
>>387777563
So if I know the basics and how traits/stats work (armor piercing and so on) I'll be alright? Good to hear that mp is active. I imagine that removing the slowtime and pause will throw me off for a while. Learning away training wheels is always good though.
>>
>>387778207

It's more about knowing which units are anti-large and resistant to charging. I've watched couple streams where "high level" players play and most of the time they just rush their armies to the enemy and start micromanaging their lords and heroes. It isn't exactly 400 APM stuff, you know.
>>
>>387777337
Cheesebuilds are kinda sorta far and in-between. Trick is to just know your faction, its strengths and weakness's. Playing against Dwarves? Bring lots of anti-armor, some calvary, or even flying units.

Playing against Brettonia? Anti-large, range units.

Sometimes you get factions that can play multiple ways so you are caught in a guessing game where you either create an army that counters theirs entirely or they pull a surprise on you and make all your units useless.
>>
>>387778330
>>387778453

Solid advice, thanks m8s. Is Empire a good army for a novice MP player? Seems like the best faction to build balanced forces around and doesnt have that many in-built glaring weaknesses.
>>
>>387779170
>Is Empire a good army for a novice MP player?
Yes, Empire is the strongest faction in MP, because they can counterpick anything.
>>

>>387769046
and controllers suck big time controlling in that perspective, which is the reason why RTS were never popular on consoles, except with people who would innately like them, and never had the chance to play them on PC, or with neutered RTS, like halo wars.

>>387768952
It's like that for a reason. To focus strategy more on units and army composition. Probably a side effect of age of empires 2 best known strategy, resource rushing and spam spawning units.

>>
>>387784508
>RNG is bullshit
If you don't like games where risk management is very important, Mordheim will eat you alive. Mordheim has an unmatched character advancement system for a SRPG where you can customize stats and skills of every unit and make unique builds and every single one of those stats matters in different situations. The problem with such a system is that there are a shitload of stats influencing a shitload of rolls, so people not used to games with a heavy focus on risk management might feel overwhelmed. This "problem" is also magnified by the fact that the game can only be played in ironman mode with the game overwriting your save after each action, so you cannot savescum and a single unlucky roll can have drastic consequences.

In other words: yes, the game is "RNG heavy". It will either teach you risk management skills or break you and you'll just quit it with a sore asshole.

>AI turns take ages
Fixed since forever.

>own movement is limited while AI can just run all over the place
An outright lie, the AI plays according to the same rules as the layer apart from the slight stat buffs tit gets on higher difficulties.

The real problems of Mordheim are the shit interface and the slow start, but for those who can deal with these issues the game offers unmatched tactical and character advancement depth in the SRPG genre.
>>

Do the campaigns have any story to them? How heavy is the story focus on a scale of, say, Space Hulk Ascension (you get a short blurb about your mission beforehand and then just do the objective) and XCOM (story events happen that drive on the campaign)?

Other guy here, each warband type has a series of story missions that follow a special character you get only for those missions, but you get plenty of time to do your own shit with just your warband.

Also the coolest shit is having people survive near-deaths with permanent injuries, I have a 1-armed mercenary captain who used to be a beast but now sucks, but I can't bring myself to sack him.
>>
>>387785136
I'm too much of a minmaxer to do stuff like that, I'd just sack him immediately
>>
>>387785034
>Do the campaigns have any story to them?
The campaigns have a "story" with unique story missions and even unique characters you get to control, but you will spend most of the time playing random skirmishes against the AI, collecting wyrdstone and leveling your warband. The story missions can be taken one after another in a relatively rapid succession, so, theoretically, you can complete the game very fast, if you're really good, but they are quite difficult and most people will have to spend quite some time to level and gear up to complete those non-scaling story missions.

>How heavy is the story focus on a scale
As a new player, you will be playing random skirmishes most of the time, which isn't as bad as it sounds, because the entire point of Mordeim lies in the tactical turn based combat, which is pretty fucking good, everything else including the story is just an afterthought.

You wouldn't, not when you have invested over 80 hours of playing with the said guy as your leader. My captain is also a bit fucked up, but at least he still has his limbs attached. Mordheim will cure you of min-maxing tendencies fast once you understand that everything is important and that no stat is pointless.
>>
>>387785248
Thanks for elaborating. I'll probably buy it on the next sale then
>>387785383
Naw man. I obviously haven't played the game but you did specifically say he was "useless". If he really was pointless to use in battle I'd throw him away without second thoughs

>GoT

>>
>>387785590
So at what point did you start saying you hate Game of Thrones while secretly still watching it?
>>
>>387784709
What you are saying is not exactly worong but oversimplified to a point it hurts. If you take leaders into account, what unit types counter what, then the movements and timings become a lot more in-depth. What may sound simple in theory, you might find it a lot harder to execute well.
>>
>>387785658
I dislike GoT but I watch it, but not in secret. Might as well see how it ends.
And there's not much fantasy in it compared to LotR or Warhammer. People never watched it for that, they watched it for the politics up until this season where it finally shifted more to the WW conflict and getting other major players involved in it.

I found this formation really useful as Empire. Your handgunners can keep firing into melee killing all those pesky heavily armored units.
>>
>>387785760
If you dislike it, why the fuck do you watch it? If I dislike something, I don't watch it.
>>
>>387785802
>might as well see how it ends
because of the reason I posted in that post you replied to my man.
Also some of it is so dumb it's good. Like the bantz between the adventuring group this episode, or the zambambo dragon.
>>
>>387785683
I'm sorry anon but you're missing the point here. We were talking about how it works on consoles, i.e. whether it would be possible to properly control it
The stuff you mentioned are tactical considerations (basically, "what unit do I use to flank here?") and those have absolutely no influence on how hard it is to control them. I did not oversimplify, moving units around just is quite simple
>>
>>387785760
>And there's not much fantasy in it
Ah yes because as we all know, high fantasy is the only fantasy genre that exists
There's not wizards and Elves on every page? This is barely fantasy!
>>
>>387785939
You can't do it anywhere near as fast on console as on PC. If you're not on the hardest difficulty and it's SP you can just pause it and negate that fact, but every single action you take will take longer on a console opposed to a M+K setup.
Clicking portraits for instance. You can't do that on a controller, unless you made a cursor. And cursors controlled by controllers are awful.

Why would a setting with primarily humans benefit from having modding tools from TW:W?
It would make more sense to mod one of the historical games if that's the case. Follow the whole reply chain, not just the single post.

>I want to play as the Carstein for skeltals but I'm sure my armies would completely crumble away during fights.
But vamps is the best or second best faction and against AI they're the best.
Seriously raising zombies is the most op spell in the game.
>enemies have ranged infantry
summon zombies on top of them
>enemy cavalry is charging
summon zombies in front of them to stop the charge then counter charge
>enemy expensive unit or hero is trying to get away
summon zombies to bog it down then send everthing you got at him.

Plus invocation of nehek healing and resurecting your troops means Vamp count armies hold out for a long time
>>
>>387786214
I found using zombies against ranged infantry not that good because you have to move the hero way too close to them, before he can cast it. Until then, they can deal plenty of damage to my army. Unless there is a way to extend spell range. To be honest, I found the "talent tree" of the characters quite overwhelming so I mostly just randomly assing skills without really knowing what I'm doing or which ones are worth investing more than others.
>>
>>387786413
Try playing Orcs if you're scared of the skill tree
>>
>>387786413
>I found the "talent tree" of the characters quite overwhelming

what the fuck
I hope you are at least upgrading the mounts
>>
>>387786437
>>387786574
Orcs are also good if you're afraid of mounts desu.

Fucking Grimgor "I'll hoof it wiv da ladz" Ironhide, way to be useless against a competent enemy.
>>
>>387786574
Actually I don't, because I read somewhere that if you get a mount then you will have trouble dueing sieges because you can't board the walls with your heroes. Is this wrong?
>>
>>387786413
>I found using zombies against ranged infantry not that good because you have to move the hero way too close to them
You can but your lord on a flying mount to get close.
Also you don't need to shut down ranged infantry at the start. Who cares if they shoot at your zombies and skeletons when you march towards them? They're useless. But once melee combat is initiated then you should be in range to shut down their ranged infantry. Also send bat swarms and cav/dire wolves to help kill of the ranged infantry quicker. Zombies are just a holding force they can't kill them by themselves

>To be honest, I found the "talent tree" of the characters quite overwhelming so I mostly just randomly assing skills without really knowing what I'm doing or which ones are worth investing more than others.
Yeah it's a bit much. For people who know magic I always focus on the spell tree first. then if they're good in melee focus on some melee skills. If you want them to stay back focus on campaign and skill that improve your rmy
>>
>>387786665
Sure, but if it's a big mount you can just break the door instead which is much more useful.
>>
>>387786665
flying mounts can land on walls
>>
>>387786665
And you can equip/unequip each mount you have unlocked, so you can use them in normal battles but remove it for a siege if you're so inclined.

If anything it will just be like a Vortex spell or any spell that affects an area for a while. Don't get your hopes up for anything too fancy. Poison damage so armor means bugger all.

The fact that you didn't realise that Halo Wars 2 already came out on consoles 6 months ago probably says quite a lot about the idea of RTS on consoles

Oh chaos cultists are dime a dozen, but they don't really offer much of a threat
Vampire corruption is far more subtle and tends to be restricted to Sylvania

It's not. People actually bought it and are actively playing it.

Bloodborne would work fine on PC without any compromises, the same can't be said for total war or a lot of other strategy games
>>

Nope. People actually like it.
>>
>>387768509
how would you even move your units?

Best console rts coming through
>>
>>387768695
This is actually correct. Console hardware can't handle the number of units, the individual number of models in units, or the battle computations.
